Here comes the U.S. Government to the rescue.....again.
Boy Uncle Sam has really pulled my butt out of the fire quite a few times. And now he is doing it again.......I love my dear old Uncle Sammy!! !.
Ok so as some of you on here may know I just graduate with a bachelor of fine arts in history......tadaaaaaaaa.....yay me......Anyway, on my last year of college I had many indepth conversations with my advisor about a possible career path I should take..........Since I was not diagnosed until I was 26 I knew that I wanted employment in a field that would afford me the opportuntity to go out and enjoy life.....to go on weekend backpacking and hiking trips.....to be able to open up my own part time business.......in short a career path that would afford me to make up for the fact that I had a sh***y childhood as well as a sh***y adolescence and a sh***y young adulthood. Working in retail would not have afforded me that. So with that in mind I decided that working as a clerk in one of the various government agencies would be best. However when I looked at some of the qualifications I began to realize that I would need more software training. So I talked to one of my advisors about it and he recommended that I go for some clerical training which is being offered by the Goodwill in my state, it might be offering it in yours too. But of course in order to be approved for training and for the GOodwill to receive the funding to train me I must go through the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation first........no surprise there..
So after I got done with my interview they told me one of two things was going to happen inbetween the time of now and Spetember.
(A) I would get a phonecall and be told that I was eligible and that I could recieve training very soon.
(B) I would get a phonecall and be told that I was eligible to receive clerical training but I would be put on a waiting list in front of 4 or 5 other people due to the fact that their situation was more dire than mine.
One of my other advisors told me in May of this year that a realistic expectation of having this job is within one year......The hardes thing is the wait........Uncle Sam may be slow but he is all I have for right now. And based on my past experience he can be instrumental in helping people accoplish their goals.
