Is there a job where I can work with Computer Programmers but not actually be a programmer myself?

It might help to know in what capacity you want to work with them. It might help narrow down suggestions to something more relevant.

Work with them i.e. they would be my work colleagues so I would talk to them and they would talk to me, I guess probably best if I'm in the same department was then or at least the same office.

TB, my best friend is an NT programmer. If you would like, I am happy to email him to see what advice he can offer.

The closest that come to mind would be requirements analyst / business analyst and project manager. QA doesn't tend to do a lot of talking, they just file bug reports.
However as a programmer, I'd hate to work with someone who doesn't know how to program him/herself (unrealistic expectations and other reasons).
Technical writers are probably the only exception - they don't really need to know how to program.

As others said, testing is a good way to get your foot in the door. Test automation and test engineering are a step up from just running test scripts.

Where would I find a Test Automation or Test Engineering job?

Check out companies that write commercial software and companies that write software for their own use that is very critical for the company's operations. The last thing they want is for something to go live without it being thoroughly tested first.

There's always a job in the I.T sector- I used to believe it was just straight admin, but since then my mind has grown accustomed to the concept of using business in day to day activities,
not for a job though. my career path has changed somewhat again, modern times is not what it was I think, and I am sure that if I analyse the proceeds of the text rather than limiting one option to a programme best suited to a mathematician then I may be able to conquer a pillage of uses for my literary and personal task, rather than some simple pleasure.
I think a new training programme would accept me and my uses, as I am sure that in time , some of my pre-conceptual ideas will flow around the workplace without a blink of an eye and some topic of excuse as to what I am doing and rather how I have accumulated not arm rested an idea into full swing.

Yes, you can work in quality assurance as a QA tester. It's an important and underestimated role in the industry. It involves finding issues and bugs in the functionality of software or devices, or stress testing devices. See http://www.softwareqatest.com/ :)

Be warned that you probably need a fair amount of diplomacy to handle these situations, you especially don't want to grill some programmer for sloppy work or something or they'll just hate having to talk to you. It may be a challenge even if theres lots of stuff needs fixing and you keep having to remind people - like especially if you were passionate about quality.

You can also think outside the box on this. Things like a personal assistant or "gopher", where you are around them but do not necessarily do the same work. Depends on what type of work you feel best suits you and meets your wants and needs.

Don't mind me, I was just proof-reading some of my written responses.
