I want to pulverize my co-worker. Do you?
I wont though..because she's a woman.
I mix with this lady like oil and water. She's too stupid to realize this. That's part of the problem. She's probably in the top 10 stupid people I've ever met. She makes the girl I had to work with in college look like a genius and I once spent 3 hours correcting gramatical and factual errors in a paper because of her.
She's been in this country since January from India so she barely speaks any English. She doesn't understand me at all so every time I ask her a question I need to find at least 3 ways to rephrase the question for her to understand. It's difficult because I only have so many ways to say things orally without really having to think and then on the third attempt to explain to this baffoon I have to sit and think for a bit. She starts to talk while I'm thinking stating that it doesn't matter, even though I don't waste time speaking if it's not important. This irritates me to no end.
Then if she wants me to help her with something she'll go through all of the steps in the way she would do it. It's usually idiotic and inefficient so I dismiss this for the most part...we do essentially the same things, she's just really bad at it. I ask her WHY she wants me to do whatever it is, because it never makes sense as to why she wants something done, and she goes into a whole tirade about WHAT to do again. I've spent 45 minutes asking her in different ways what the reason is for her wanting me to do something and her just telling me how she would do it. At the end of the whole thing her answer has been anything from, "It's for you to practice." to "Our supervisor needs it done." How hard is it to answer the question, "Why does this need done?" with a simple response...
The most annoying part about this whole thing is that she will act like I'm an idiot for asking why she wants me to do this. She get's a tone that to me says she's talking down to me as she explains the wrong thing again. As this charade goes on I get more and more frustrated with her babbling. I've had to tell her to stop talking because she cuts me off in the middle of my sentence. I looked this up and apparently it's a cultural thing for Indian people to interrupt you.
I don't even want to talk to this woman in the first place, yet she always makes it into such a chore when it happens. I think she thinks I like her because I'm a pretty amazing actor, but I really just want to pummel her in the face until there is nothing left. She brings about an unfathomable rage that I've only seen by two, maybe three other people in my lifetime.
I don't know if anyone else has to work with an idiot like this or not. I just needed to rant about her so I didn't lose my cool while in front of her and shout at her for being as stupid as she is.
Anyone else have similar situations or am I just a jerk?
It seems to be more of a cultural/language thing than a Nt/aspie thing. Tell her it is rude to interrupt in North American culture. I would also recommend talking to your boss. There are times where I have to deal with those from India and Pakistan a lot too (couriers, etc). They would come with our freight and no paperwork, or our parts would be badly damaged andthe courier does not speak very much English. They learn not to interrupt me because I am big, stubborn, and just talk over hem when they do. I would tell them about the damage or such, and they would have a bad attitude about it when I note it on the waybill and make them initial it. They would grudgingly sign anyway because I would refuse to sign until they did. My boss would back me up if they became aggressive or hreatening since I always go by company policy with that.
that must suck. i've had a few co-workers i absolutely couldn't stand, but i never had one who didn't speak english as their native language.
my first question to you would be: has she been there longer than you, or is she above you in job title? if not, why the hell would you ever do a damn thing she tells you to? she should be doing what YOU tell HER to do, as you are the one with the experience...
how does your boss and upper management view you? have you been there long enough that they feel you are a valuable asset to the company? if so, you need to sit down with your boss and explain the situation -- if you can't, then write it down in a concise manner, and hand a copy of it to your boss for when you have your private discussion.
when i first started my job, i had a co-worker i couldn't stand...i was SO happy when they changed departments...that is, until we got her REPLACEMENT -- omg, she was from HELL. however, my job title was one up from hers, so i didn't ever do a damn thing she told me to do -- in fact, i ignored her completely when she was acting like a jerk.
over the years, as i went up the corporate ladder, i encountered a few more rotten apples....but at a certain point, i realized that i had the power to do something about it --
i knew that the company valued me highly, and i'd been there longer than anyone i had a problem with -- so, at different points in time, two people above me who treated me poorly (and they were from different departments!) were given a stern talking to by management, and things improved drastically...
and of the three people in my department at my level or below that i ever had a chronic problem with, at different points in time (meaning, different years), after being given a stern talking to and nothing changing, i told my boss -- "IT'S THEM, OR ME." they picked me each time, and the offending employee's position was "eliminated" (meaning, they let them go without "firing" them, to avoid any legal hassles)...including, the woman in the third paragraph.
keep in mind, i worked at a large company, with many employees coming and going over the years, i get along very well with most people, and i'm not nit-picky at all...as for the people whose jobs were "eliminated", NO ONE liked them -- my boss, included.
good luck.

LOL, as a fellow Forklift operator, I respect everyone equally and don't care about anyone's background, race etc but I will admit I HATE working with anyone from India. Call me racist if you like but I have dealt with a large number of them and without exception they are bossy, pushy, have terrible attitudes, refuse to follow direction of basic safety rules and usually have jaw dropping arrogance. I even told one that lunch was a 12 and he told me "I'm taking it when I want to". One even smoked on the job and when I told him about our no smoking rule he just shrugged his shoulders and said "so?". As a temp. On his first day. I also had a temp with zero experience tell me I didn't know what I was doing and tried to take over my position on his first (and last) day. I agree our culture is ridiculously hierarchal and messed up but when I'm a veteran employee you damn well better listen to me and obey my rules!
My own brother who is as left wing as they come even told me he wants to deport almost anyone who is from India. When a tree hugging hippy says than I REALLY start to wonder. To be fair, most of the people he works with lie about their credentials to get into the country and cry racism when the company tries to fire them. I'm sure India is a wonderful country but wow I do not get a very good impression based on our experiences.

I thought it was just me...Everyone I work with is Indian. I think there are about 12 of them and 1 of me. It really frustrates me when they all speak in their native tongues around me. I feel like they're talking about me and it is more rude than interrupting. It's a frustrating position trying to work with people who all talk just to talk because they think it'll get them promoted. If you ask them a yes or no question you get a 5 minute speech without even receiving an answer. I try to be direct as possible. I have a bad habit of explaining multiple avenues of approach and multiple outcomes of situations whenever asked a dynamic question. This confuses them, especially her since she's dumber than my dog, and I have to either explain what I meant or just tell them I was talking to myself.
I don't think it's racist to dislike the way people interact based on culture btw. I personally can't stand the Indian culture. They're deliberately late to EVERYTHING...I don't want to get into to big of a rant about the rest of the people I work with as this one is the worst. Thank god for BOSE quietcomfort.
PS: The stupid one came over to talk to me while I was typing this.
