Hey guys.

At the back of our store is a giant rubbish bin / dumpster with a secure lid which requires a key.
However... it is broken into every night and the following morning someone has to do a clean up of the entire area as it's not only hazardous but our waste is often spread over to spots owned by other businesses.

I guess what I'm asking is does anyone have any other safeguards they use when trying to prevent this sort of thing from happening?

How strong is the lock? What kind is it?

The dumpster is provided by a private waste disposal company. It's heavy duty, but the only downside is the lock can be opened with an allen key.
I don't think there's anything more we can do shy of bolts but then that might only encourage people to open it more.

Any way you could add a cable lock or chain link and a cut resistant pad lock.

What kind of a business is it and what are they taking? Are they looking for food?

We had an issue with people stealing our scrap metal and wood and one of the guys from our warehouse put up a sign that very nicely asked people not to steal from us because we are a nonprofit and stealing from us hurts the people in need we are trying to serve. Surprisingly, it seems to have actually worked.
