What do you guys think are the toughest jobs to have? Let's discuss it here.
----
Network executive - This is a tough job. You've got to decide what shows will go on the air, and what won't.

Sports official - You will not please half the people when you try and make in important call. Case in point, the Seahawks/Packers game last September.

Nurse in a nursing home.

Your workload is dangerously high.

You skip assignments and make up things like blood pressures because you have no time.

You have to be a disciplinarian to lazy aides who try at every opportunity to get out of doing work.

You have to attend boring meetings.

You're always being threatened with getting fired if you forget any of your work.

You're so busy you don't have time to use the bathroom or eat during your entire shift.

Your co-workers barely speak English so communication is impossible sometimes.

My appreciation goes as well to the cleaners of the foulwaterpools in sewage plants. They work in airsealed, pressure diving suits, so that if there is a damage in the suit, the air pressure probably moves far likely air outside then let "stuff" get inside. They work in total darkness, because any lantern or lamp helps nothing, because they are totally in mud. Additional its hard physical work, because the suits are very heavy, and while being in them you additionaly need to scrath hardened "stuff" from the pools. In comparison to workers in mine, the mine workers see as well no sunlight, but at least they have lamps and are able to see something, while those sewage workers really work in total blindness and darkness. As weird as it may sound, but at least its a job, that might benefit blind people, because normal people wont have any advantages doing it, and its a very well payed job.

It all depends on how you define "tough". Many are extremely tough in completely different ways.

Front-line infantry: People shoot at you all day, you try to shoot them first

ER Doctor: Speaks for itself

Surgeon: 1mm off with a knife and you go from saving someone's life to killing them

Skyscraper construction worker: Walkin' on steel beams hundreds of feet in the air

Any construction worker in the south: 110+ degrees, 100% humidity, and a job that keeps you outdoors all day doing manual labor

Sr. Engineer: Millions, and at times billions, of company dollars can ride on your calculations and opinion. Better not forget to carry the decimal!

Any minimum wage (or low wage) job: You work 8hrs a day, are treated with no respect, make no money, and have to work just as hard at home to figure out how to eat and pay rent

CEOS/business leaders: The entire company is riding on your shoulders, better not mess it up!

Skill wise, I would say almost anything in the STEM field. You have to be highly gifted to be able to do those jobs. Anyone who can excel in those fields should be truly grateful because not only do many employers want their skills but of course they pay really well.

Automotive Technician, pay is based on work completed which is controlled by the many service advisors thus requiring you to keep everyone happy so to speak to ensure your paycheck doesn't get shorted. Not to mention you spend close to 50% of your income buying tools. I spent almost $30,000 in my 5th year of pursuing the career. Finally decided its a bust. I enjoy diagnosing and repairing cars (and everything else that runs + things that don't) its just not worth it for honest mechanics anymore. I was once fired for refusing to install faulty brake parts. Don't be so hard on your mechanic next time...he's just doing what the advisor tells him to.

For me any job in which others would depend on me for their own safety/well-being would be way too stressful, having kids is difficulty enough!

I absolutely cannot sit in an office all day, I have tried it and it led to a pretty nasty mental 'breakdown'. I have to stay active or I'm a unpleasant person to live with.

At the moment I have too much social anxiety to even contemplate working again, I've been out of the workforce for two years.

Work that exposes me to cold weather is unbearable, my hands are extremely sensitive to cold to the point they are rendered useless.

That's all I can think of for the moment.

My best friend in high school's older sister was a stripper and lived in up North somewhere. She didn't work at a titty bar, she worked at this dirty book store up there. They sold toys and books and all and they had these little rooms for watching movies alone in and also little rooms divided in half by a huge window. One side of the room opened out to the store area and the other was exactly the same except it opened into a private, locked, employees only area of the store, where the strippers were sitting around waiting for customers.

Here is what happened.

The guy would pay the cashier to either watch a stripper dance or he would buy a toy and pay the cashier to watch the stripper use it. These were fees to the store and the girls got a flat fee from it. Stripper goes in one side, guy goes in the other. Only window is between them, total privacy. He has however long he gets and she does what she does and has a timer going. When he's done he leaves out his door, she leaves out her door.

The stripper doesn't have the worst job in the world. You are about to meet the guy with the worst job in the world. She said he was a skinny little old man who came into the room with windex and paper towels. He cleaned up the glass on the guys side of the room. The girls side didn't need cleaning up.

That man had the worst job in history.

Anything that is customer oriented, the biggest pain in the world, you have to deal with the most unreasonable homo sapiens you will ever encounter from the mean, spoiled to the schizophrenic. the worst part is you have a reasonably negative reaction to a situation you get fired not the customer.
