I have a writing gig set up, and feel like I shouldn't talk about it in detail, because I risk getting banned for spamming or controversy. But, I have my foot in the door, and I think I'll stick with the plan of driving out words every single day whether for money or not and hopefully I hit a nail with one of them. Why am I saying this? Well I got this current writing thing by chance. I was looking for some information online, and noticed there was very little info about it. I send an email asking questions, one thing led to another and I get paid to write about it now. Only $20 an article, but hey, it's something. That led to another writing gig($10 an article there) on similar subject matter and now I have two outlets and get paid for it.
So I guess, to put it simply, focus on what you know, and be yourself. If there's a gap, fill it in. If the gap is full, no sense in overflowing it. Best to move on and adapt where needed.

I wish you luck, and hope you find higher-paying writing "gigs." Do you play in a band?

I don't play in a band, but I do play music on my own. Try to anyways.
