Idea for self-employment

Apparently, I want to start a business selling promotional goods to people (mugs, clothes, pens, and other likewise things). But there are two ways I want to get into it. One way is, I would really like to purchase goods pre-printed from a Wholesaler or a Supplier, but I am afraid that some of these companies may collect money from me and not give me the goods. So, I was wondering, should I actually purchase pre-printed goods online, or not?

If I cannot trust going online though, should I instead buy some printing equipment and print logos on the goods on my own instead?

This is an idea I have because for a while, I have always wanted to work for myself and be self-employed if you ask me.

Even i want to start my own enterpreneurship. I paint and do some crafts.
Paper quilling, fabric painting and canvas painting
there is lot of market abroad for Ethnic Indian art.
I was thinking on the lines of selling my art.
This art can be done on paper, mugs, cloth etc.

You have to research the wholesalers. Look for complaints conveyed over the internet. Look for testimonials.

Whenever I buy things, I usually buy then in person. So if I were ever to purchase wholesale goods, I may have to deal with meeting up people from the most part. So, most likely, I will have to learn how to use the printing equipment and then buy blank goods from a supplier.
