anyone with written/verbal communication issues at work?
I am doing my resume and becoming a bit angry, upset, everything as I continuously read the same BS of written/verbal communication skills. As far as written communication skills, there is not a single instance where I have scolded someone in an email or said anything negative. I was told only by my last manager that I was "too direct". For example, as I am trying to get answers for something, I normally say:
Hi XXXX,
I was researching this and that and was needing your help on X.
Thanks much or regards,
Blah - me
But that I should be saying this
Hi XXX,
I hope you are doing well. I would really appreciate your input/expertise and time to assist me with this issue?blah
I appreciate your help in advance,
Blah-me
and I am thinking?
OK, fine, I get it?I do this with customers with NO PROBLEM. NEVER has a customer complained about me being too direct,
mean, having crappy communication skills, etc?however, the idiots at work it seems I have to "make them feel better and raise their self-esteem when I ask for their help."
Really? 20+ years of the same crap?so tired of these highly sensitive people. Mind you, I have complained about people who have sent me EXTREMELY rude emails and NOTHING was ever done to them or said to them. I was told "I took it too personally" although these people's response was usually "I have been here longer than you and thus I know what I am talking about and you are completely wrong?or another STOP asking me for help, I don't have time for this".
Reallty? Honestly I am beyond worn out and truly feel that no matter how smart and great my reviews are, I can never win with people.
How do the rest of you deal with this? Is it just me? ugh
I have found the best approach is:
1. Never ask anybody for help
2. Do as much work as possible
3. Help people when they need it
4. Write with pseudo-flowery prose.
All four have saved the job I've been working at for 33 years. I do a lot of Aspie and ADHD things, which I usually get away with.
I'm sometimes "called into the office"--though I was last written up 23 years ago.

I don't have much advice, just want to sympathize with you.
I've got so many examples of this double-standard.
I state facts and I'm too direct, they flame and whine and I'm taking it too personally?
~smh~
It's so childish. I do my job, I'm honest, I'm tech-supportive. Why are their feelings my responsibility?
Add to that being female and being to the point is seen as b!tchy or bossy, and I just can't win.
