Finding a job difficulties

I graduated in May and the first thing I did afterward was apply for like 10 jobs. A company contacted me now which is the worst time to do it because I will be gone all of next week and this Friday. Why is getting a job so easy for some?

With the company, perhaps tell them something like 'family event and will be back on ___ ,' something vague and brief which preserves your privacy.

Job hunting has always been a numbers game, now more than ever. Some people have an easy time just like some people easily win a poker tournament, plus they might have the prime major and all that. Please keep trying, and eventually things will break in your favor.
