I thought it would be interesting if I ran a poll.

It's not ideal, but it's not bad either. It's actually a little bit stimulating too, because you have to evaluate what you have and how you wanna load it. :P

My job is all right. I'm going to be retiring in 8 1/2 years with a decent pension.

That would pretty good if you could zone out and still be able to do it. Better if they let you use your MP3 player.

It sounds like you're more exited about retirement than the job itself. Come to think of it retirement at 60 is 5 years earlier than the normal age (or 10 years earlier than the age where I live). So what do you do?

I'm a data-entry operator--the ideal Aspie job!

I tend to the writing center on campus part-time. Interaction is usually with one person, and I like my coworkers. Could be worse.

Interesting that you should say that. My employment agent was saying that was one of the jobs she'd try go get me into, after I resign from my current job. That could be ideal for me also so long as they let me listen to audio books.

Also so long as I can overcome my neurotic idea that taking a job soon could be preventing me from, studying and then getting some better job (higher status, not necessarily lower stress). I shouldn't complain when there are people who desperately need work and would be happy to get any job whereas as for me work is 1. completely optional and 2. used more as a status symbol than a source of income. The money's just a bonus for me since I already had more than enough money to live on before I got a job. Maybe that sounds callous of me but I'm already aware that even in the developed world some struggle to survive.

I need a job to survive. I have no independent wealth.

Yeah, I tried to say that without sounding callous but I guess I came across that way anyway. I think my problems are less serious than most people's. I never struggle to survive or lack any comfort. The struggle is all in my mind. When it comes to getting a job or a career, having enough money to live on before you begin is extremely demotivating (hence this poll). I should probably stop complaining though because other people have real problems.

Facts are facts, the emotions are only applied by the listener is most cases. You're capable of analysis and acknowledgement of circumstances, which is more than one can say about most NTs. Don't be too hard on yourself.

:) You're right. I shouldn't be so hard on myself. Self loathing is irrational but old habits die hard. I can say that now that I'm in one my better moods but how easily I forget when I'm at a low point.

Programmer. Awesome. My whole business fits in a backpack. I just open it up and work where I want to.

I'd recommend anyone learning to code if they have an interest in technology.

I voted "meh" as my choice.

My current part-time job is "Utility Clerk" which is a fancy way of saying "You bag groceries...but you also do other basic stuff, as well." Using the scrubber in the morning, checking and cleaning the bottle return room, using the cardboard crusher machine whenever nessisary, doing other misc. stuff. But I mainly just bag groceries. I was originally looking to get a job as a grocery stocker but since I've never had a job before, they put me in my current position.

I explained in more detail why I'm not too excited (at least not like I was months ago) about my job in another thread. Essentially it boils down to certain moments where I feel overwhelmed or at least worried. I have to make sure I bag everything right but not spend too much time mentally calculating on what the best decision is. I also have to remember which things are the softest to the heaviest, even if the difference is minimal. I need to put things in bags either way so I can place them in the cart and make room for my "workstation". To make things even more complex, the customer officially starts being conscious about me after they're finished paying. This is especially bothersome when either there are a lot of customers in line or if most customers have items that take up three carts. Then there's having to deal with what's going on in the background (visual, audio, temperature, etc). If I am scheduled to, I also have to pay attention to see whether a vehicle pulls up, thus forcing me to quit what I was doing without saying anything to the cashier or the customer making me seem rude or something. All of this and I have to make sure I present a perky pseudo-extroverted attitude towards the customer.

Fortunately, and surprisingly, they're going to set me up to try out being a grocery stocker tomarrow. I want to see if I notice any differences to my mental state while being a grocery stocker. Hopefully it will be a better experience for my mind.

Cool. Then we kinda are colleagues. I stack boxes for 8 hours straight. It's not exciting, but it's not bad. The only downside is that I'm an auxiliary employee, and they only call me when they really really really need extra workers. I actually haven't worked there in TWO WEEKS! 8O
Luckily I also have my cleaning job which I do mornings.
