When it comes to practical jobs in a workplace environment im hopeless. Perhaps its the surroundings and sensory/anxiety issues. I cant do even the most basic factory work.

In academic settings im absolutely fine however.

Does anyone else find that theyre unemployable because they constantly make mistakes get things wrong and stuff things up but have a field where theyre incredibly skilled. Is this due to AS?

I think what you described is at least fairly common amongst Aspies.

However, many Aspies are able to make the adjustment after acquiring some experience in the working world.

Dont get your hopes up in academics. You need a lot more social skills in academia because it is still stuck in the medieval ages of 'your work is only as good as your social connections' BS.

You need grants to do your work? you need social networking to make it happen... even if your work is top notch that wont get it for you.

Need to work in a research team? Your grades and previous work can be the best but you need recomendations and connections to get you in.

If you manage to get in, its no different than working in an office... the same social drama crap goes on.

Wow....you totally described the chem lab I worked at.

I shilled and sell sell selled more at conferences and poster sessions, than I ever did in my art job. My prof would say, "Okay little show ponies, make the magic happen."

I felt like such a big whore doing all that networking.

Bring your used car sale persons skills to the lab. You will need them.
