This is a common theme at my job every single day, and I'm not sure why its happening. Is it due to AS, is it due to depression, what is the problem? Has anyone else experienced issues in retail like being short on the drawer repeatedly? Or not bagging properly? I am not rushing, I am taking my time.

I think this is sort of a wakeup call for you to go to college and get out of the Retail Trap.

In the meantime, be more careful about the till; I'm sure they take the shortages out of your check. Watch people bag, I suppose, and practice their method.

I do want to excel in school, so your right. No they dont take shortages out of the check, and watching people bag does work sometimes, not all the time.

I advise you to go to school too, esp. since you want to.

I do go to school, and now that I'm doing courses online, its lonely, but my grades actually got better, they fell tremendously when I had to deal with NT people who had no idea why I acted the way I did. Even sometimes then, I get too distracted, if its online, and I have been thinking of looking into medicine that helps with attention and distraction problems.

Being a cashier was horrible for me b/c of ADD. It is very easy to accidentally hand back 2 $5 bills instead of 2 $1 dollar bills while you are trying to keep a conversation with the customer and multitasking other things as well. I ended up just triple counting everything. Yuck. 8O

Be present.

Focus your thoughts & actions on the present moment.

If you can manage to not think about things you're not doing in the moment, you'll focus much better on the tasks of your job and get it done a lot more effectively & efficiently.

Totally agree with this line of thinking. I know it can be difficult and as it was with me.

Not to mention the customers that purposely talk fast and confuse you with handing back change as a tactic to steal... Some folks are really good at that.

Another thing, never let anyone work your drawer. I've had people who'd volunteer to cover for someone for a break and then slip cash out of the banded packs in the bottom of the drawer.
Not that everyone's a thief, those were just some of my experiences.

Best of luck.
