hello,

does anyone else here have trouble with work's do's?

i feel really badly about this: tonight is the leaving do of a colleague that i really quite liked. i said that i would go because i like the idea of it and thought that it would be the good thing to do.

alas i was a bit tired and i had to drop my bicycle of at home and just went for a lay down before going out. by then my enthusiasm was fading fast.

i HATE work do's. i don't know what to do with myself and drink loads because of nerves. few people will talk to me for more than the obligatory 5 mins then they move onto the next person and i am the only one who spends long drags of time on my own. last time we went for a drink after a work event, something i said which was supposed to be complimentary towards my direct boss was repeated back to her in a negatively scewed way (whilst they thought i was out of ear shot!) and i was in the dog house with her for weeks but unsure how to correct the slur without digging myself deeper.

i feel now that i will be judged on NOT going tonight. aargh! what is the answer?
