My boss is bigoted against Aspies (and probably people elsewhere on the spectrum). This is not just me being sensitive, he's gone so far as to put it in writing once (I saved that email, oh yes I did). I've gone to carrying a digital voice recorder in my pocket so I'll eventually get him recorded saying nasty things about us (read: me). What a douchebag.

What advice do you all have?

Make sure to test that the recording device works properly. You dont want to record your boss saying something only to listen to static when you play it back. Try recording a normal conversation with a co-worker just to make sure everything sounds ok.

Good idea, but he's too stupid to read an internet forum. Seriously.

Granted, my myspace page will reveal who I am by the profile pic, but the profile itself is private. It won't give away too much.

He knows I use the recorder...it's part of my job anyway; he isn't aware I'm using it on him though :)

Don't go down that path - recording your boss without his knowledge could land you in hot water regardless of what he says on tape. Taking pictures of things can get you in trouble as well. Such a thing happened here at my job and despite our managers insensitivity and blatant stupidity captured on tape, the person who did the recording lost their job and largely because of the recording itself (even with union intervention).

I agree that the tape recording could get you in trouble. Also depending on your workplace policy on social media, any comments about work (especially negative ones) could spell trouble. (My hubby's workplace specifically prohibits any workplace stuff appearing on social media. Penalty is losing the job, no explanations accepted. You post work drama on facebook or other media, you are fired.)

I would tread lightly in this area, for sure. Saving emails, certainly. Those are records in writing that do not go away. But always i would remember that the same can go for myself. I always keep it in the back of my mind that anything i put on the internet, on any forum, could be viewed by any number of ppl. I try to keep it vague and mostly nice or at least not too mean. :)

Ppl have the right to run their mouths. They have the right to be stupid. Unfortunately good ppl have to deal with stupid ppl at times. I would keep stuff that is in writing, such as emails and memos, if you think you will need it. You are not obligated to disclose that you are an aspie, as far as i know. (unless you have already done so, then i guess it isn't like you can take it back.)

Other than that, i would do my job and do it well. Let him have his opinion (you don't have to agree), but be the best worker you can be. Often if someone is really a jerk, they will dig their own grave. But if you get sucked into drama, they may take you down with them. Then you have not gained anything. Keep it classy on your part. That would be my advice.

Being a bigot isn't technically illegal. Discriminating against a protected class of employees - like, say, persons with asds - may be illegal (depending on the state) and is almost certainly against an employer's policies.

Besides treading very carefully re: keeping emails/voice recordings of your boss saying bigoted things, you ought to think about whether your boss has ACTED on his bigoted views, i.e. Discriminated against you or another autistic underling. If he hasn't, there's likely not much you can do.

I would research whether you're in a "two-person consent" recording state or a "one-person consent" recording state if you're in the US. If you're in a "two-person consent" state, any recording done without the boss's consent would be illegal, and would be inadmissible in court.
