What do you think about working in the Amazon's logistics center?

I am a Pole here in Poland near Wroclaw, my city Amazon opened a large logistics center for Central Europe service.

I am 29 years old, I also suffer from Asperger's Syndrome, the first job I got only a year ago, works at a charitable foundation, my boss complains a little on my performance, most our crew are fully healthy.

I told him that I am going to take part in the recruitment to the Amazon, he told me that they certainly do not accept me because they are looking for mostly people with experience, and that Amazon's logistics center is a slave camps in which they do not care at all about the staff.

But I would like to work in the Amazon.

But I'd like to know what are the opinions of people who have worked for Amazon.

I've only seen a British documentary about Amazon fulfillment centers, and I don't know if that's the same thing. But on that documentary they did say something similar to the slave camp thing, and showed how fulfillment workers were overworked, did not get adequate breaks, were timed quite brutally as to how long it takes them to fill an order, etc. Generally it was said to be a miserable company to work for.

However, that was only one viewpoint. If this is the newest and largest new job opportunity near you, you might as well go for it and at least try to get a job, and then see how it goes in reality. You might be in a different department and you might find everything goes well.

Go for it, bearing in mind that there have been reports of disgruntlement, but put that aside and give it a chance for what it's worth.

I do not know the difference between logistics centers and fulfillment centers. So you are at building WRO2? I started at one fulfillment center and then moved to another (in USA). I have worked at Amazon for over 7 years.

I enjoy the work. In certain work, they are quick to "write you up" even when you are doing your best. "You should have handled one or two more units per hour", they say. I believe this is because of individual bad supervisors - I believe they do not have to get people in trouble, but they choose to anyway.

I am lucky - I can avoid the work where they get you in trouble quickly. I try to "act normal" in spite of my Asperger's. I try to be cheerful and helpful. Empty trash cans when they are full, sweep up trash off the floor. Help others when you can. I get lots of overtime, especially around November and December (50 percent more money for every hour after I work 40 hours in one week).

Amazon is the "best fit" for my skills that I have ever found so far. And my Asperger's is tolerated pretty well. I should avoid complaining, since other jobs I have had in the past were all worse !

And our buildings now have air conditioning in the summer. This was not true 4 or 5 years ago, and it would get quite hot some days/nights.
