So there is this idea called "the Employment Club". It is one of several terms made up by myself to describe what it means to have or not have a job. So, just for kicks, maybe the time is now to share and see what my fellow Wrong Planeteers think of this stuff. And yes, it is all from my likely uniquely skewed autistic brain.

So here are the terms.....

* Employment Club - "Labor Force"
* EC Chapter - Employer
* EC Member - Employee
* Ecaps - stands for "Employment Club Approval Points" ie money.
* EC benefits - Generally ecaps and health insurance policies.
* Repetitive Ritual - the actual work you do.
* Non member - an "unemployed person"

It matters to me because I do not want to feel inferior to those who have jobs. To me, it's like "big whoop, I have an ASD" My social aptitude is less than what's necessary for sustaining employment for any appreciable term. My hopes for employment are kind of like a mom's hope for the right girl for her gay son. Would be nice but probably not terribly realistic.

Okay, come to think, that analogy makes me envious of gay people. Being non-compatible with hetero marriage is not the same as being non-compatible with EC membership. Last I checked, Average Joe Homosexual doesn't need to prove to an appeals judge that a theoretical hetero marriage wouldn't work out.

That's the end of that brain dump. Stopping now before this rant turns even weirder.

Cheers!! !

Might need one more term:

Former Member<---

After 25+ years of performance of various repetitive rituals, I decided to take a 'time out' and figure out what was actually happening with my health. 18+ months later, still have not attempted re-entry.

I'm a member of the Employment Club. If I wasn't, I'd be homeless and in massive debt.

Playing to loss aversion is a very popular tactic in EC chapters. It's quite interesting. I'm envious of those who can allow themselves to be motivated with that and not have shut downs as a result. Good on you KraftieKortie! :D

Lots of people have tried loss aversion tactics on me both in and out of ECs. It generally hasn't ended very well. Part of me wonders if it has to do with my General Anxiety Disorder. Easy fear overload isn't very fun I must admit.

What about the Life Club? You basically can't do anything without being a member.

Unless you are in the Very Advanced Simulations Club... but who knows?

Can't speak for Life or Advanced Simulation clubs. I have no idea.

I personally like the EC idea. It's easier to be okay with my own rituals when workaday Jane is doing rituals too. I do rituals. She does rituals. The presence of a payroll department in the mix is the only difference.

To be sure ecaps (ie paychecks) matter but they aren't the most IMPORTANT thing. There are ways to contribute and create value for society without a payroll department backing you up. A simple "thank you" or "hey this really helped" is also a form of approval even if there is no "points" involved.

The idea of an Employment Club takes employment and takes it down a notch or two to show employers as the glorified social clubs they are. Not being allowed in the local social clubs isn't the end of the world. You don't need to be in a club chapter to have a sense of purpose. You don't need a chapter to socialize. You don't need to be in a chapter to create something of value individually or even as part of a group. I personally can create my own structure in my life fine without a chapter thank you very much!

And that's the problem...... Employment Club chapters offer payroll and NOTHING ELSE. They offer survival. Survival is a neurotypical game that I have no business playing. I think it's awesome to see people like KraftieKortie make it as an employee just as I think it's awesome to see paraplegics make it as skydivers. However, having been both a skydiver and an EC member, I'm personally secure in saying that my talents lie elsewhere. Now, with all that said, I've got some real work to get to. :D
