Sudden interview bomb!

I got a sudden phone call from a local retail store and I have to come in tomorrow morning for an interview!

I fortunately said nothing about my disability. I did say I had a transportation issue and have to take the bus to work but I said I would get a car as soon as I could. Is lack of transportation less of a problem for them?

In my experience they are only concerned that you can arrive on time. How you get there is not an issue.

They were concerned about my lack of transportation... They turned me down on the spot.

What? That's ridiculous. As long as yes, you can get there on time it isn't their business how you get there.

In the future, I would not mention the bus. You may have to get there way ahead of time and leave later than you'd like, but that's how it is.

People in some regions of the US have weird ideas about taking the bus. It's common to take a bus or subway in cities and in other countries.

They require evenings and weekends and the busses don't run during those times.

And I live in a small isolated city where it is very hard to live without a car, but you need a car to get a job.

Oh man, well...

Can you carpool with anyone? If you could you could say your availability is whatever you have worked out with that person and then when they ask if you have a sure way to work you could just say yes.

I just think if you're honest about your situation, ANY workplace is going to say no on the spot.
