ok i work at krogers! yes the grocery store. I have worked there for almost 2 years. (2 years on June 17), and i use my aspie to my advantage there. I talk about it alot there and its good for when i bag cause people tip me a lot when i do talk about it and all the obstacles i have over come (one day i made $40 in a 4 hour day and man i wish i could of stayed for an 8 or 10 hour day cause i was on a roll). Anyways thats when i am on the bagging side, and when i get to the cashiering side, the codes will be a snap to me, considering i am aspergers! and with our extremely good memorization skills it will be easy for produce codes! The only problem is my manager and i have been qualified for a year + and nothing has happend besides the union stepping in and making them make my pay to cashier rating (which earned me a whole 25 cents an hour and a year later in early march another dime raise since baggers dont get raises). Then my mom made me quit the union since i was badgering krogers with cashiering (they moved someone with less seniority up then me)

I worked at a grocery store for about 2 years.

I like when you open up the paper bag and then you have to but the boxes and cans and vegetables and stuff in the bag and make it all fit square. It's kind of like Tetris.

Also I enjoyed following all the little guidlines for how to bag groceries. Like try to keep all the cold stuff together. Put the meat in a separate plastic bag. Don't put the rat poison in the same bag with the baby formuala, etc.

It didn't feel so fun at the time, but looking back that was one of the funnest jobs I ever had.

I'm sorry but the way you talk about your Asperger looks a lot like whoring it out..

I don't tell anyone at work that I have Asperger's. But, every job I have (I'm a contractor, so I change a lot), the supervisor compliments me on not gossiping all day and not getting "caught up in office politics." I don't know how many times I've heard that. If they only knew. I still don't know what "office politics" is!

I've worked in grocery stores in various capacities for my entire adult (and teenage) life. I actually worked for Kroger for about two weeks when they aquired the co I was working for, but soon quit to move to another chain. I currently run the night (freight) crew as the grocery manager. Stocking shelves is cool 8) , and you can be sure that my crew has the best faced / straightened shelves in the business. I freak out if a can or box is pushed a centimeter back from the edge of the shelf!

OP, you're right about the produce codes too. When I worked during the day everyone would ask me whenever they got some odd Asian or Central American produce item. Bitter melon or loroco petals anyone?

I think office politics are the equivalent of the high-school social culture..
Gossips, arguments, buddy-circles and those things.
