Well, I finished day two at the call centre. So far it's not bad. We have three weeks of full time training so it's kinda like being in school right now. Long days though. But the most physical thing is the stairs which I sometimes avoid with the elevator.
As we progress from the administrative stuff and move to the technical it is becoming more interesting. Early days yet though.
It's nice to be making money sitting in class. :)

Tomorrow we are being introduced to customer satisfaction theory - I guess sometimes they yell. Not sure how I'll handle that. Although I have faced disgruntled customers before and survived.

Thanks kraftie :)

I'm learning a lot in the class. Even if this job is not forever, I will learn a lot of transferrable skills.

That'll be hard. There's a lot of cute techy nerds there. :)

Day Four - not so much.

I was reading in another thread how a member is struggling with executive dysfunction. I think this is my major issue too. Anyway, this morning I slept through my alarm (which I think I have done twice in my life.) I missed my bus, but caught the next one. I was sitting on the bus and I was overcome with a feeling of confusion and foreboding. I transferred to another bus and came home. Then I wrote to HR and told them the position was not a match for me.

I feel like the deer in the headlights and am somewhat incapable of organized thought right now. I hate this feeling. It's like I don't know who I am or where I am.

The call centre was an extremely corporate environment, with constant supervision and correction. It is very technical and customer orientated at the same time. The resultant multi-tasking caused misfires in my brain which left me staring at the computer screen not even knowing what I was supposed to be doing.

I am going to resist the urge to beat up on myself as I am being mindful of what my psychiatrist told me in our last meeting - that I need to accept that I am limited for reasons that are not my fault (paraphrase.)

So I'm just going to keep moving forward and see where I end up.

I'm sorry this happened.

Call Centre is a pretty rough environment for an autistic person.

Better luck next time, Ann.

I had hoped that you would meet one of those "techy nerds," though.

Me too. There are a lot of cuties in my age range. But alas ...

I have applied to an online transcription service. I think that would be more suitable.

I found the call centre environment to be designed to force socialization. The whole building was structured like a miniature world - complete and secure. In my whole life I have never been in a structure without nooks. I like to hide in nooks on breaks and there was not one in the whole place. I think for security reasons - there are cameras and they want to be able to see everything at all times. I can't work in a nookless environment.

Sorry that job didn't work out, Ann. I have "succeeded" in two different customer service jobs, but there was another call center job that I didn't make it through the two week training.

Good luck with whatever comes next.

Thanks Bea ... I found it to be a very oppressive atmosphere. Very team oriented and fake pleasantry. Spending more time on that than actually teaching us the material, which was quite complex.

I didn't realize how much it was effecting me until I left. It was only three days and I'm still not back to myself.
