Many outsiders looking in at this thread would assume that we are all a bunch of lazy bums, but that is simply not the case.
I think that the reason why we are all so unwilling to work full time is because we have either experienced, are about to experience, or are afraid of experiencing, 'the burn'.
Given that AS folks seem to have so much trouble getting and keeping jobs, its no wonder we are all so interested in working for ourselves.
At least that way there are no more Ahole bosses or co-workers to worry about, we can only get upset with ourselves.

i'm bilingual, so my dream job is to be a translator. i want to work at home, translate books and have them published.

recently i had a contract in which i designed lectures for kids. omg such a good work the time is flexible, and the employees are rather friendly. those kinds of work are rare, though, i guess.

I've been fired or pressured to quit from EVERY job I've had over the last 15 years. Customers usually like me OK (some rave about great service) but peers and (especially) management HATE me because I don't "fit in" and do whatever they say (like forcing people to buy useless warranties.)

I'm going to have to either work for the right person in a VERY small group (like one-on-one as an electrician apprentice) or totally on my own (as an electrician :) or an artist... I've been thinking of making my own line of greeting cards, children's books or a comic strip.)

But I can't handle a boss. Part of it is just me being a bit bull-headed that when I find a better way to do something, that's what I want to do. The boss shouldn't have to convince me to do it their way every time they ask me to do something.

What about self-employment?

Thats the story of my working life. It gets to the point where I dont even see the point in getting a bloody job, I just wanna sit on my arse at home. I just don't see why if you're working in customer service, why having great customer reveiws makes NTs hate you. You'd think they'd want to learn. But then again, I'm no NT, so who knows what goes on in those socially aware minds of theirs...

Management doesn't REALLY care about customer service (despite all the talk.) They want profits above all else. Extended warranties are +90% pure profit so they push for them - HARD!

In their mind - an employee that puts the customer's interests before the shop's interests is a BAD EMPLOYEE! They want profits, and the customer usually doesn't benefit from being forcibly sold things they don't want, aren't what they really need, are overpriced, have false margins, etc. Getting the customer a great deal means a happy customer and an angry boss. So my experience has told me.

When a customer happily praises that "bad" employee, it's rubbing salt into those wounds, making management hate even more.

well I've had 85 jobs in the last 17 years, I either am told to leave after awhile or fired. I live in Hell A which is a very expensive city, I pay 1k for a dumpy room. It depresses me to the max, I'm looking to leave this city cause I've had it. However because I have animals I can not find a cheaper place to live. I recently started to do extra work for some income, I've been living off a accident settlement in the last 2 years but it is running lowww. Anyway about the extra work, they hired me at 2 jobs then after that when I call in they say 'NO'! and slam the phone down. I've been here by myself for 11 years now, I am by myself I mean, I do everything alone. i don't fit in anywhere with anybody and I'm looked at a lot like I'm a alien from another planet. Don't ask me..man I'm just here, living...yesterday someone hit me on my bicycle so I ache today . Jobs huh...after your told constantly to leave or get fired how are ones like us supposed to f@#kin live or survive. I mean I don't mind working at places it's just that it's not that long only temporary. I feel like I don't belong on this planet sometime, I get so sick of people around me always having fun with their friends. and i'm alone..then if you reach out it's like.. 'did you say something' or they look at you like WTF you talking to me. The only thing that keeps me alive is my animals they understand me.. 8) a job...hmmmm well I dunno if I win the lottery I'll let you know.. sorry to go off on my little b***h pitch about my loneliness, I needed to get that out. thanks for listening..guys.

I am still in college, but I make my living off investments and mooching off my upper-middle class parents.

My wife just got into a network marketing business, selling Arbonne products. So far, she is doing quite well. She is very outgoing, and not an Aspie. But, anyway, the advantage of network marketing, is that you can spend maybe an hour telling someone about the products and the company, and, if that person decides to sign up, you will make a little bit of money of off that person, every time that person makes a purchase, for potentially years to come. Then, if that person gets someone else interested, you make money off your downlines also. This can eventually snowball into a very comfortable income.

This would be very difficult for someone who is not naturally outgoing. I'm counting on my wife to become rich at this.

yes, the wealthy have more contacts PR and money to do this.
they get tax breaks and sometimes don't even pay for entertainment.
what you propose takes a lot of determination and sacrifice for the lower class person.
