I need some advice. I am a librarian at my local public library. I work part time there for the last year and a half and I love it there. I just recently learned that a new position will be coming up soon at one of our library's branches that is full time and a slight increase in pay; however, it is at a place I have never been before and I am not big on change. Also, it is far away and I don't have a driver's licence; however, I do have family members that can drive me back and forth to and from work. What should I do? Has anyone been in a situation like this before and what did you do?

In terms of the change being an issue, I get you. But you shouldn't let that hold you back. I think you'll feel a lot better about yourself if you do the things you're afraid to do, provided those things are good for you.

If you think about it logically, the fear is irrational. You know the job so you'll settle in quickly, your colleagues are most likely going to be decent people (I haven't met any horrible people working at my local library!), and you're getting more money out of it. Seems like you have nothing to lose.

If your family is happy to give you lifts I think you should do it. Are there public transport links you can use as a back up?

I'd stay at the old job. You say you "love" it and any extra income will be used on transportation to the new job. You may not always be able to rely on family for transportation. Also, if you like your co- workers that's half the battle. I'd try to find a full time job in your present library.

Old job seems better, and full time might open up there in future.
