Hey there.

So recently, I've decided that getting a job isn't really a possibility for me right now, so I was wondering, is there some sort of workaround or way to generate money without having to to go an interview and get rejected 90 times? I've never tried applying for a job, but I've seen how hard it is, even for my NT sister, to get any job at all, so I've decided to give up before I start.

I've had a few ideas on generating money... Odd jobs for people I know, using clickworker and other microjob sites, buying old furnature on ebay, fixing it up selling it for a profit, hoping to generate at least another £90 a week. However I'm not sure. Is there a way to work "off the grid" and escape traditional employment? Because I see getting laid as more likely as getting a "real job."

Anybody offer some advice? So long as it's legal (or gray area, don't much care for ethics, trying to survive here.)

You can always run your own business. Then you get to be the one to give interviews. Or not, if you like working alone. There's definitely money in buying things off of ebay/craigslist and fixing them up, depending on the price and object.

You can certainly do the buying and reselling bit or do something like a youtube channel, but from what I've heard, it can be difficult to earn enough to keep yourself sustained.

I recommend you go into getting a job as if you were learning to do something like ride a bike or drive a car. You're trying learn a skill in order to get something you want and you assume this skill will become automatic, like it is for most people. Believe it or not, commonplace social skills become automatic for I would say most people on the autism spectrum by the time they reach middle age. They may still be uncomfortable, but maybe in the same way that it's uncomfortable to get out of bed in the morning. You inward groan, do it, then you don't think about it again.

There are many tricks for getting a job that you can learn and put into practice. You can perfect them and use them again whenever you need to change jobs in the future. People here have autism-specific recommendations for things like faking eye contact, making small talk, promoting your skills and minimizing the things you have a hard time with. It's something you can get through.
