I work a job with a schedule that changes every week. That means that I rarely have more than one day off in a row. Right now, I'm in the middle of a four day weekend that, before, I was really freaking excited for. Now, two days into it, I feel guilty. I don't even know why. And this isn't the first time. I've noticed before that if I have an extended period of time with no work, I feel bad. My best guess is that it's because I'm not doing anything productive, so I feel like I'm wasting those days. Is that normal? Am I going to have to force myself to relax?

Yes, you should just relax and remember it's only a job. There is only so much work to do, and the workload may change, depending on many things that has nothing to do with you. Sit back, watch TV and enjoy the freedom ;)

I felt guilty when I had off days because my department was shorthanded & I felt like I was letting them down, especially when I was allowed to make overtime. I was working 55 hours a week & felt guilty cuz I was off one day a week.

I know how you feel. I always hate sitting around on saturday night when I know I could be working.

If you worked 55 hours, you were probaby working much more than you should. Don't feel guilty about it.

I thought this was just me! I work a rota that is different every week. I think it's because it's hard to switch off between shifts, as there is no regular pattern so my brain doesn't 'know' when it's ok to do nothing. When I get annual leave it takes half the week to switch off before I can start enjoying it. Gets tiring after a while!

I'm exactly the same way. I really need to have a lot to do or I get very depressed; I try to get in touch with friends so I can go out and do something, but if that falls through I typically feel like crap. I need to either be with other people, or be doing something that feels productive... something that feels like "work".

Holidays are the absolute worst, because everything is closed so I can't go anywhere.

Yeah I only needed to work five 8 hour days instead of six alittle over 9 hour days. I was going through a depression at the time & work was kind of a distraction. I learned & grew in the process thou which helped me get over my depression.
