I'm still deciding what to do with myself. A lot of plans I had for a long time have fallen through as I've realized they likely aren't realistic. Someone here suggested I try and play to my strengths (thanks, Kraftie!) but I'm not quite sure how I'll do that in the search for a long-term career. So this thread is to just let people float ideas.

So, what careers do you think are suitable for an aspie who...

1. Will inevitably put his fist through a monitor if a job requires being in front of a computer for 8 hours at a time
2. Accordingly, would rather roll in chum and jump in a shark tank than have anything to do with technology, IT or engineering jobs
3. Feels deeply repulsed by the idea of working for a large, for-profit organization (but would be thrilled to make life difficult for such organizations)
4. Works best in small teams or with a partner. I mean, I can work alone for a while but not all day.
5. Is deeply concerned with the world and wants to do something socially responsible with his life.

I'm open to any and all ideas for careers that might appeal to someone like that, i.e. me! :)

Here is a list of jobs that don't involve sitting in front of a computer

Dirty Jobs is a program on the Discovery Channel, produced by Pilgrim Films & Television, in which host Mike Rowe is shown performing difficult, strange, disgusting, or messy occupational duties alongside the typical employees

They're not what I'd like them to be, but if I find an appealing option I'll find a way to get the ones I need. I can get financial aid for school if I need to.

Ha, for sure! I always liked that show. There's certainly at least some allure to blue-collar work... I'd take it over being stuffed in an office all day.
