I have never had a real job in my life and I'm 20. I have moved away from home to University to get used to being more independent and so far really enjoying it and faced many anxieties and I thought maybe this time I should get a part time job and challenge another anxiety. I need the money too.
But my heart sank reading advertisments online for jobs in the area. The majority of them, the employees their looking for need to have a outgoing personality, work well in a fast paced enviroment, do many things at once and deal with the public well. Think grocery stores, sales assistants and endless other positions.
I do not see myself as that person. When the advert states clearly what their looking for, it only makes sense not to apply if you don't have those qualities correct? I am the very opposite. I have mild Aspergers and the kind of qualities their looking for are things I struggle very much with day to day. Even for the money, I do not want to put on a mask which I'm not.

So the idea of having a job gives me lots of anxiety. I also have a lot of bathroom anxiety so I would need to work somewhere with a bathroom close and not work too long without a break (maybe asking much)
Is it wise to not pursue jobs saying they need confident, outgoing people or is it worth biting the bullet for the money? And what part time positions would be more suitable for autistics?

Any help please let me know!
Thanks

Read this: https://translate.google.pl/translate?s ... t=&act=url
(google translation from Polish, but isn't that bad)

Quote:
In a number of recruitment ads employers formulate the requirements for that position almost automatically, expecting candidates' excellent teamwork skills "or" excellent interpersonal and communication. " Outstanding communication skills, so important positions related to the conduct of negotiations or presentation, most of the other works are not necessary.

People with ASD is characterized by honesty and integrity. Hence, if they do not have any qualifications or qualities required for the position described in the announcement of recruitment, most likely will not apply to them. Thus, the employer may lose the opportunity of employment an employee who may, indeed, not be the life of the party, but it is a great specialist in the field. It is important that the employer to determine what skills are actually needed for the job and describe them through the advertisements of easy-to-understand language.

Therefore don't worry about the "outgoing personality" thing and just apply if you feel like you could do the job. They use such "requirements" because they are too stupid to decide what skills are actually needed so they go with some generic soft skills. Also "requirements" are not requirements despite the name - they are the ideal. If you don't fit one or two "requirements" you can still apply. Its up to them whatever they decide to hire you or not - you won't know till you try.

This is what I said - but I am also guilty of ignoring that kind of job advertisements and not applying to jobs I don't fit one or two "requirements" due to anxiety and lack of confidence...

Ah yes, those jobs. Those are not the jobs for you. Those are jobs for NTs.

Jobs that do not require such things though, will usually require some degree of training, for example, mechanic, carpenter, other trade jobs, warehouse, factory, specialized professions, and so on.
