Ive been a cake decorator for about three months at W*lmart and it's horrible.

I've posted about it before, but I was trained less than a week - I saw the cake decorator who was quitting for 4 days, three of which were about 4 hours and another where I only saw her for one. The stress is high, and my boss is convinced I got plenty of training and the problem is me.

She also claims that only a week of training for cake decorators is the current policy at W*lmart. I can't tell if she's lying through her teeth or if corporate is really that f*****g stupid.

My boss is always trying to make me feel bad about this too, making comments about how she's never been a cake decorator but look at this cake she decorated (it's a f*****g tres leches, anyone can decorate those, you've also been in the bakery for over a decade, so you've had time to watch cake decorators; I got 4 days) with no cake decorating experience. Another girl in the bakery was a decorator 2 years ago at a different W*lmart and did nothing but practice borders and writing and make cupcakes for the first two months. Didn't touch an order for almost 6 months in. Meanwhile I've been on orders since my second week.

She also is just super unprofessional. The closer was off one day, and she didn't schedule a closer for that day (she is one of the worst schedulers) and called him in. He thought he had made a mistake and was supposed to be in that day and apologized for sleeping in, and she let him think it was his fault. Didn't correct him.

She's talked about me "not caring about my job" behind my back, but when talking to me claims she knows I care about my job. I do care about my job, like if I didn't care about it would I really spend time outside of work looking for ideas for decorating and tips for how to do tasks better?

She and her second in command f****d something about with dates (like best by dates) recently, then tried to pin it on other people in the bakery.

Right now I'm desperately applying to other places because I can't f*****g handle this. It's really unfair that I've been placed in this position. Like I don't want to f**k everyone else in the bakery over but I am sick and tired of this s**t. You cannot expect someone to adequately do a job with insufficient training.

I don't know what I'm hoping to accomplish here other than venting.

That sounds terrible--I'd rather be pulling weeds for some rich guy who wants to brag that he has a perfect lawn without using any nasty chemicals.

My first job was with Wal-Mart; I walked off the job after my review. Most of the polices come down from corporate, by some industrial engineer who never them self worked the floors. Don’t get me started on department managers, not the smartest group and are just on a power trip. The scheduling was my biggest complaint. I can’t work for a company that randomly schedules, makes it difficult to get a second job that you need; because they don’t pay or rarely offer full time.

Have you considered becoming self-employed? I left and done just that. I didn’t LLC or anything and would if done again. I had a DBA through the state and business bank accounts, cards and shirts made. I offered very basic stuff. Residential/Commercial cleaning, interior painting, and lawn care. Very basic stuff that you may already have the skill for or can easily learn on your own. Within a year I doubled my income over Wal-Mart. I concentrated on repeat customers and the communication was very little.

Probably cake decorating videos online???

The manager does sound very unprofessional and I think I'd be looking for other work too.

I think that no matter how you try to advocate for yourself not having enough training, the manager is not going to offer you any more. That's my best guess.

The other idea about basic services like cleaning and lawn care... sound wonderful. I may have to try that myself.

I tried dog walking once but then I wound up with an extra dog. And I had to ask myself how many more dogs did I want. I am not dog walking for others anymore!

With all the people problems and fairly non-existent social life, dogs absolutely love me...

I hope you get another job soon! Maybe P*nera or somewhere w a bakery if you want to do that. Or something else if you don't.
