I remember when I was about 16 a friend showed me her bracelet, and I said, "that's nice, where did you get that from?" and she said, "none of your business". Well, if she took the trouble to show off her new bracelet to a friend then it is my business. Usually asking someone where they got something from is a normal thing to ask when someone shows you something of theirs. It's how conversation works.
She walked in with a notepad and asked us about colors and then put our answers down and asked: "Do you like orange or blue?" Even if she was doing something for a research project, she could have said, "This is something we are working on but I can't give you all the details. However, she was vulgar and annoying.
