I am 21 in college and need a job but not sure what to go for. As it might be expected on here I am not that good at talking to people and it puts a lot of pressure on me. I want a job with low customer interaction but I feel like I can deal with coworker interaction fine. I have been looking at various local corporate chains but not so sure about entry level jobs besides cashier and fast food cook. An entry job that interests me is working in the back of a retail store like Walmart, Target, etc. but I am afraid of the possibility of having to do a lot of heavy lifting. Just don't know many other jobs that I can do with my personality, it seems like almost every position requires an outgoing person and they literally specify it.

One of my first jobs was at a Library reshelving books. It was actually pretty awesome. I had the entire place memorized and was pretty quick at it.

I would steer clear of customer service if I could. You might consider trying to work in a field that you have a passion for. Having a love for what you are doing makes it easier to tolerate the bothersome aspects of any given job.

The 3 jobs I had all involved cleaning. My 1st was a dishwasher, my 2nd was doing floor cleaning & my 3rd was custodial. The 2nd & 3rd jobs were at retail stores. My 2nd was WalMart but I worked overnight. It was a super WalMart so the store was open at night but there usually wasn't alot of customers. My 3rd job was working while the store was open so there was more customer interaction but the stockers & cashiers dealt with the customers alot more. I found stockers to assist when I wasn't able to or was having a hard time at both those jobs. I do have problems with social interaction but there were never any complaints about my customer service skills. I think I grew & learned skills from the experience. None of the jobs involved really heavy lifting usually. Perhaps you could do custodial stuff at a non retail place where there would be much less customer interaction.

My first job was being a dish washer at a local restaurant and I was only 16 and lasted 2 weeks because I didn't have a good work ethic. My second job at age 17 was doing telemarketing but it was for inbound calls taking orders over the phone for various products advertised on TV. That was a great job for me at the time because the only customers I delt with were on the phone. Everything was scripted for us to tell the customer so that job was a breeze. I agree with the comment that getting a job related to something you like would be most beneficial. My brief experience with college (I completed 1 semester and dropped out after that) allowed me to work for the university being a janitor in a couple of the resident halls. It was perfect, 3 hours a day from 6am to 9am....I loved that job and the people I worked with
