I volunteer at the VA hospital in my location and one time I was so happy coming back from chatting with the veterans while pushing them in their wheelchairs as an unaffiliated escort for the Administration I sang all the way back to the office. It was Forever Young by Jay-Z and Mr Hudson. When I was like ten feet away from the office I forgot that there was medical testing going on with a sign that said “Quiet, Testing in Progress.” Since I recall seeing that sign the first time I was going in and out down the long hallway there’s this guy sitting nearby, I suppose a veteran maybe. He must’ve had PTSD cause you know what these people have gone through considering it’s a hospital for veterans and he yells at me to keep it down. I’m standing there trying to make up excuses while he’s talking so inappropriately (in a sense that he may have needed to keep it down too) while holding the sign and telling me to be quiet. I felt so bothered (like he’s harassing me when I already knew the sign was there) that I ran down to the office ignorantly while he’s following me with the sign in his hand and as I sit down he’s like “he’s doing this, he’s doing that” to one of my volunteer friends in the office. I return the slip for the patient I already took and he walks out, he may have put the sign back but I don’t know. I run out with the next patient and head to the nearest ward and he runs out at the same time as me. I snapped at him to leave me alone as if I thought he was following me just to harass me again, he apologizes and he leaves down the hallway never to be seen again. Of course I felt sorry for the guy as he must’ve been a vet but my one friend at the volunteer office said not to worry about the incident as he just had an attitude against my singing. I must caution all you people on the job at these locations or volunteering wise to keep it down in hospital zones as this may happen. It’s like when you’re doing this while you’re in college for a good cause, this world will not welcome you with open arms before/after you graduate like people treat you as if you’re in grade school all over again. Please remember to respect your superiors and all the other people around you, especially those of you who are teenagers. Not easy but it’s life. In case you ask me about this guy I have not seen him since “people come and go.”
