I have not heard from that Detroit school job in a couple weeks, but suddenly I get an email that the director of the school system wants to video conference with me tomorrow morning!! !

Wow...

We live in anticipation of unexpected things, and when they happen it makes it all the more worthwhile. :)

Yeah, third interview for a permanent job? This is getting serious!

Though I'm not sure it is an interview based on the wording of the email, to quote part of it directly:

"would like to meet with you this week to discuss the pathway of zoology at his school."

Can someone more knowledgeable in interviewing/hiring terminology help me interpret this?

They want you to teach zoology---or science in general.

They want you to prepare for the meeting by conducting independent research about the school or school district, discuss their current Zoology program and its strengths and weaknesses, critique their mission statement (if available), and contribute ideas about how to improve their program with your dazzling brilliance.

I mean that sincerely.

Congratulations on this third step.

Yep. Research the curriculum. Get to know it a little bit. Get to know the school (or the Detroit school system--it might not be for an individual school). But the curriculum in the public schools is usually pretty standardized.

They might have zoology in middle school----and high school. Though my impression is that it's a specialized course in both types of schools. Usually, biology is taught in generalized terms. Or it might be under Earth Science in middle school.

Of course.....Isabella's advice is fine and excellent!

Actually the Zoology program is going to be brand new and they are just starting it.

Is this for a high school?

I would look at the school's demographic, their budget or financial position, their standardised scores (assuming this is available?), and ways to incorporate technology with practical outreach experience as much as possible. Look at community resources and liaisons, and ways to incorporate their Environmentalism plan.

Just ideas.

Even better. Then look at their Biology program, or the curricula for any Zoology programs in the region. You might even look at Undergrad Zoology curricula in Detroit to find cross-curricular prerequisites, and research those (e.g., look at the school's Math and Chemistry scores, etc.)

And they gave me a PDF detailing exactly what will be taught... All high school students and they will be taking one class a semester from 9-12th grade and also getting research/zoo work experience too. Classes very similar to classes taught at the college level in zoology (Zoo science, animal behavior, ecology, genetics, etc...) And then they have to do real life research projects (in 9th grade for example they have to do a wild bird research project) and animal care, etc...

Oh, and my degree is in Zoology... These classes materials are very similar to what I did in college.

I don't think so... It's a program at a magnet school, the whole school specializes in STEM.

If it's a magnet school, there probably is an AP choice for many courses.
