I'm usually fine once I'm in a job. But I loathe the process of selling myself.

I also find it very, very hard to remember and describe what I've done in jobs.

After much procrastination I've actually gotten to the resume update process in another window. But I'm having to drink wine and take frequent internet-surfing breaks to be able to stand it.

Oreos and Coca-cola get me through a job hunt. :D

Wow. I think the combination of excess sugar and job-hunting would give me a heart attack.

Whats a job? :)

I did for some strange reason look up what jobs are available in chemistry in my area today and I see one I could likely get at an oil company. But no way is this hippie getting a job. :)

I hate this whole process. I am naturally inclined to not gloat about my abilities... but it seems like everyone else naturally make themselves seem better than they actually are.

And the same with describing what I actually do at jobs. I know I am supposed to highlight my accomplishments... but I can never think of a good way to describe what I have done.

What I really hate... every job wants to know your previous job titles. I have no clue what my offical job title is at my previous jobs. Is it even that big of a deal? It's just a piece of fluff anyways.

The blah-blah-blah is everything.

Sadly, I'm a just-the-facts kind of girl.

there ya' go! that's the ticket!
stick to it Juliekitty. . .inch by inch, row by row. . .gotta make that garden grow. . .

I detest it, too. Sell yourself, rah! rah! rah! play the game, smile, or what passes for a smile.

I got this job once, they had lifted the hiring ban and I had the first interview, then they lowered the ban again and I got the job. how wierd, but it was a great job, I did little to nothing, just hung out in this huge new building and took the in house technical calls on the swing shift. You might luck out like that, too.

I now just dread the idea of updating a resume and looking again. .so much I put my head down and just grind my way though things at work that I used to jump and run because.
I must support myself and I must put something away for retirement. I have NO idea if I am going to be able to to grind it out until then. . but I am doing my damnednest!

if for no other reason than I don't have to update my resume and look again.

I send you my best energy, Juliekitty, better you than me!

Merle

I was hoping to be able to do that at this job. But I've gotten bored, and some things have set my teeth on edge, so I'm on the prowl again.

Restlessness and inability to tolerate boredom are my fatal flaws.

well, I just found out today I can transfer out of Dreadford and up to Portland. . .The Rose City. . StumpCity. . .Beertopia. . .in the same job I have now.
so. . .same job, new digs, AS support groups. . more chances to grow. .

so. . .I will continue to grind away...

wish you the best! write two more lines!

Merle

oh, no! Job titles are VERY important to them, that and what your manager paid you!
don't neglect these two crutial points to a resume or an interview! You see, people, especially managers are very impressed by what some other manager called you in the hierarchy of the office. also, your gross pay. . with all your perks and benefits, etc, all figured in and brokenout into a pie chart is really good for the third interview. . .because, and this was pointed out to me BY a manager, some other manager stuck their neck out and signed off on your pay rate. This gives the prospective manager confidence that because some one ELSE on his level put his butt on the line about your worth, then so can the prospective manager!

sheesh, I just report it, I don't understand it, nor do I make the rules.

If it helps, I don't think most employers really study resumes; they just skim them to see that you're employable and look for words like "punctual" "team-player" "sense of humor", etc embedded within. (Unless you're applying for something really specialized). And if anyone asks you what your biggest flaw is, you're supposed to say that you're a perfectionist. In any case, the interview is usually the key to getting the job.
What's your favorite type of wine? I'm drinking shiraz right now. :)

That's become a big cliche now.

I always say "math". It has the triple virtues of being true, amusing, and completely irrelevant to any job I would ever apply for.

Fortunately, I'm really good at dress and grooming, and I've learned to fake NT body language for up to an hour at a time.

Shiraz is my fave as well! But right now I'm drinking a passable merlot I got from a wine-making expedition.

I think Merlot is the next best thing to Shiraz. I'm trying out different brands lately; I just tried "Painted Turtle" and it wasn't that good. :P
