I'm currently self studying Photoshop with tutorials and was wondering what jobs I could do without a education

Yes, my friend. You can easily make a career as a Designer if you couple up some Illustrator skills. Moreover, you can also get many freelance jobs online.

Some suggestions (not necessarily good ones but...)

- Image retouching (may be hard to compete with modern photo apps)
- Photographic recovery (scanning old negatives and fixing them from chemical bleeding)
- Designing logotypes and clip art
- Image manipulation for a newspaper (as in creating fun pictures)
- Working with a lawyer as a specialist to identify/enhance detail in photos, i've helped once in a case to enhance details in a video and i have no official training in video editing or anything like that.

It all boils down to having a portfolio with samples you can show for a potential employer/client.

Realistically, getting comfortable with multiple Creative Cloud programs is what is going to make you more successful if you're interested in Adobe software.

Photoshop is the CS program used for web/UI design, so that is a good field to look into if you like Photoshop the most. Another non-Adobe program called Sketch would probably come in handy.

If you want to do any kind of logo or printed material work, learn Illustrator (logos, illustration) and InDesign (what you use for layouts for print design - flyers, books/magazines, etc).

After Effects is another good one to look at.

You can be a faker for sites that have fake pix of celebs. Some sites(the more commercial 1s) pay fakers fairly good money. There's also some fakers who post on free sites but charge for custom fakes.

You can try freelance websites such as Fiverr, Upwork, etc.
I personally use Fiverr for illustration gigs.

Agree that you should get good across Adobe CC. However, an aptitude for Photoshop is a great start. I would definitely add some motion graphics like AfterEffects, and maybe even a VR/AR engine to really stand out. With that, you could start freelancing in graphic design and some Web design (though not the coding side). There are salaried jobs in graphic design, but you'd probably have to get experience as a freelancer or intern first.

uhm, as a designer, I'm offended by how many people think that Photshop/software skills are sufficient to do design.
I do agree though, that image manipulation, retouching and recovery are things you can do -

Photoshop isn't enough, we employ a guy at my office for Photoshop but he also knows his way around a camera to take the photos he's modifying in Photoshop. You'll also want to get good at Illustrator but the Adobe suite of products can be pricey.

You need practice and a bit of talent... I know how to use the open source the GIMP and Inkscape and I find it kinda fun to do.

How should I place elements in a web page? And what are some good tutorials on that? That's what I seem to struggle with the most

Is it possible in graphic design to make a decent living from freelance sites to live in New Zealand?

I was also going to suggest fiverr,I imagine it's a bit slow going until you earn a reputation, there's also other stuff of a similar vain you can do if you fancy expanding your horizons to illustrator and Corel draw for vector graphics, which can sell for good money or 3d software which means you can sell on sites like cgtrader.
If you stick with Photoshop you can sell graphics as t-shirts from sites like red bubble.

Designing, architecture, video and photos editing are some of the option where you can easily get involved without any additional courses. In fact, you can be proud of yourself that you pass self-study course. I guess it should be online classes, where someone is speaking and sending all the material needed. Plus you study a lot by yourself. I would like to try an online course on[/url], but I’m not sure it will be as useful and informative as real life classes are. Are your online classes as good as you expected? Would you recommend them to someone? Or is that a complete waste of time?
