I was student of the month in May 1998, just before I graduated from high school.

I certainly havn't been Employee or anything else 'of the month'. Heheh. :) I think it's a little pointless to try to be that anyway, but that's just me.

No, but I was once sent a "special pen" in the post for my amazing customer services. At the time i was sent the pen I was working at least ten hours of unpaid overtime per week and not taking lunch breaks. I laughed at the pen. Actually, I kept it a long time, but only so i could laugh at it.

Once I got an "Employee of the Quarter" award ... but only after the head of the organization sent everyone an e-mail desperately asking for nominations, since none had been received by the usual quarterly deadline. I strongly suspect that I was the only one ever nominated for that quarter. My own boss didn't even nominate me, a co-worker did. The head of the organization forgot to sign my award certificate, so I had to chase them down later to get it signed. After the ceremony, when everyone else was getting ready to have some cake and punch, I was so embarrassed by it all that I made some excuse to leave the ceremony and go to my desk; I didn't go back. The award wasn't even announced to the general workforce until about six months later.

The whole thing was such a farce to me that I don't even list the award on my resume.

BTW, this organization also had an annual awards banquet (attendance was mandatory) where the "Employee of the Year" was announced. Strangely, the winner was NEVER one of the four previous "Employee of the Quarter" recipients! ''

Out of the 4 places Ive worked for 3+ month periods, none of them have done an employee of the month. Those consisting of a security guard company, an amusement park, auto parts delivery, and retail.

Well I only work with 2 or 3 other people and usually only 1 at a time and theres no employee of the month there anyway but when they put me in charge of building a fence on the resort we were building the guy I was working with told me that whatever they are paying me its not enough and I should ask for a raise. My boss tells everyone that comes on site that I was one of the best finds he ever made. A big part of this is because I focus so well and wont put up anything that isnt as good as possible.

More times than I can count. I'm a quiet and determined type of aspie, which means that I'm honest, I have a high personal standard of quality, I work hard, I don't bend the rules, I don't cause drama or any other kind of trouble, I'm nice to people, and I don't waste company time. Bosses tend to love that. I just avoid working in catty environments if possible, so I can be respected for what I naturally am.

I don't think the places I've worked had employee of the month...

But if they did, I'm the kind of person that gets overlooked for such things. I believe I do a good job, sometimes a tad unconventional though.

Throw some absent mindedness on top of that, and a compulsion to not toot my own horn and be extremely humble about the caliber of the work I've done... and you get someone who doesn't get noticed much at work.

Are you sure? I'm really quiet at work, too (if you can believe it, with an embarrassing 5000+ posts to my name here :P ). I used to think that I'd disappear because of it, but I think people appreciate those qualities more than you might realize. You stand out here (among other reasons) for being so calm, rational, and helpful. I bet you're great at work. Don't sell yourself short.

Thanks, gwen.

I'm not that quiet at work though, once I'm comfortable I start talking and going on about anything.

I'm being a bit too paranoid about this, but my attitude/style is very casual and I don't exude professionalism. Which is kind of what they are looking for in an employee of the month, I think. As you know gwen, I'm not one to tweak my appearance and actions to some unwritten rules. In fact I revel in going against it, if I'm adamant in it's absurdity.

I stand out for being the 'different' yet likable guy that everyone can get along with, not the stoic, joyless worker drone. I believe that an employee of the month done by my coworkers would get me more recognition than one done by my superiors.
