I've just been turned down for an internal promotion because...

Poor eye contact.
Emotionally distant.
Invaluable in a technical/theoretical role and so they don't want to lose that.

The job was, as they admit, beneath me but won't let me progress because...well, I think it's because they're scared of someone who is actually good at what they do and not one of their little flag waving idiots.

Is it any wonder my company is going down the drain?

Hi Astilius. I'm really sorry about this. You must feel quite hurt. I think the one good thing is that they admitted that you are invaluable. And I want to stress that if you are enjoying what you do, be careful to think it may be great to be promoted: if you get into a position where people report to you, it is essentially a social type role which can put enormous pressure on us. But, if you can do it, yes, then it is very unfair that you were overlooked. I am truly sorry.

I hope you can forgive them for their ignorance and continue being the valuable person you are.

The change of position,if it involved social contact, maybe for the best....Hoowever,if there was a "difference in money",then you should get a raise to stay in the position that you are so "valuable" at.I believe there should be some legal(disability act)compinsation if your inability to do the higher paying job is based on your AS.

The thing is, I've had previous jobs where I held positions higher than the one I went for. I have a proven track record in management.
It is illegal, but then my company regularly dabbles in illegal and immoral activity. The amount of people who are promoted beyond their ability due to being someone's friend is horrifying.

I'm good at what I do and they admit that. I have a track record in higher jobs which they ignore.
I've had it with this company. I mean, even from their own perspective they're doing the wrong thing.

I really need to leave.
