Working with the general public.
For as long as I can remember I've worked in various public facing roles and it is a royal pain in the neck because it is very difficult to not lose my cool and go insane, and my current job is similar in a way to what I've already done but it has the benefit of allowing me to work at my apartment and thankfully it's kept me sane for a good bit. It also helps that the insurance covers therapy so that is a bonus. What I've always wondered is, how do people like me handle dealing with working with the general public? Especially when the general public can be INCREDIBLY unforgiving with customer service employees. Any and all ideas are appreciated.

I've worked in customer service for 4 years. I don't exactly like people, but I don't actively dislike them. Though I have gotten a bit disillusioned over my time. lol I am also quite empathetic and able to be patient with people who have problems, so that helps.
I do also get irritable in my job! But it's mostly sensory related. And that is a big reason that I am getting accommodations for my sensory issues.

Most of the jobs I've had were working behind the scenes but I did have one where I had to deal with the general public.
I worked making sandwiches and doing catering for a companies staff.and I had to directly take their orders. It was very difficult. If someone had a bad day I noticed that they were not particularly kind to the people making their food. I worked.with another person who was very charismatic and outgoing so I tried to copy what she did. I also.took a lot of notes about the job. Eventually I had to leave.the job because it was too stressful but my boss has no complaints about my work.
