I have been struggling for two years now, attempting to obtain a position in my field (hardware design). Part of the problem is my location (Calgary) where there is a glut of ex-Nortel employees with more experience (at least on paper) that are obtaing what precious few opportunities that are available localy. I have attempted to branch out my search locations. However, have not got anything but nibbles.

However, enough for the past. A firm in Victoria has expressed interest in me. They have conducted several phone interviews with me, and seemed impressed. In fact, I appear to have somehow developed a rapport with the head engineer of the department. Now, they wish to fly me out to Victoria for an in-person interview. I have a new suit of clothes (chosen by my father who travels widely in business. circles). Everything appears to be in place. If the moon's gravitational pull is just so, and the planets line up, and the wind is blowing NNE, I may have a chance of landing this position. Your well wishes may be the tipping point!

Seriously though, I cannot see a firm outlaying the capital to fly me to Victoria unless they are serious about hiring me. Your thoughts?

On top of that, I firm from Michigan contacted me, and asked for an updated resume. This is after firm after firm hasn't even so much as acknowledged my applications to them. Isn't it always that way, all of a sudden you are king for a day. And, when you reign, the offers pour in.

Good luck to a fellow Calgarian (even though I live near rival Edmonton these days!) ;)

Well, I suppose I could accept your wishes, even though they may be tainted by the Edmontonian influence.

PS. You Edmonton was the real reason they invented the atomic bomb!
