I am and have been in the past, extremely stuck to my online researching, chatting, interests, etc. and since returning to work after my year long maternity leave 3 weeks ago, I have realized it is NOT getting any better!! !

I simply cannot stay off the computer. I feel compelled. I do something I SHOULD be doing and then I think of something that interests me five minutes later and that is it, I am off and running ito la la land again!

I am so bloody lucky my office is so understanding, but maybe one day they wont be!

Like when I am putting everything off, so that I can post one last post or read one last paragraph or book one last flight! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! !

I need help!! !

Anyone else?

My work too is understanding, as long as I get my work done. I don't do the socializing thing very often. I'm making more like 12 G's though...

GET OFF THE COMPUTER AND GO BACK TO WORK... RIGHT NOW!
this message was brought to you by your conscience... have a nice day! :D

I work at night and when I don't have any labs to set up or patients to see, I sometimes get on the computer to come here or play neopet games (blame my daughter... she's the one who got me addicted to that! :P ).

If I don't pull myself away and get the other work done... file reports, restock, etc... then I wind up staying after I clock-out so I get those things done for the crew in the morning.

I wish I could tell you how to solve it.
Sometimes I can be successful by setting a timer for myself and getting up when that goes off.
I use this kind of timer...

and this timer helps? I can't imagine it motivating me though...

I am the exact same. There are so many things that MUST be done for the morning and quite often I go past my days end *sigh*

I was so bad this week, that several times my home prompted me on msn, asking why I hadn't left yet! Oops! I just lost track of time!

My James really enjoyed this:

And as for the 12G's... no worries, I will be paying back all those damn student loans for years to come, so at the end of the day... I feel pretty broke. :x

You sound like me!
One of the reasons I thought I might adopt some kittens from the backyard recently, was my co-workers keep telling me I need someone/thing warm and alive to go home to, since I stay at work quite late off the clock.

The timer/pager thing works, but not always.
It works when all I need is a stimulus to break my attention from something like the computer.
Once that is broken, I can think about what I am doing and perhaps shift to something else.
Again, it doesn't always work... it has an off button after all!

Ah, but remember the cliche, "money is the root of all evil", and, of course we know that government and banks are evil empires, so by removing yourself from money (or visa versa), you are rooting yourself firmly in the ground of GOOD! ... oops... I mean :D

ahhhh... the madness of it all!

I managed to stay away from WP all day!! !

Only because I was fully engaged in researching and writing my daughter IEP!! ! :)

I think that the schools are completely out to lunch, btw. What on earth would possess them to write the 3 (yep I said 3) goals that they did, is beyond me. What's worse is these people claimed to know what they were doing, took 6 weeks doing it and are COMPELTELY clueless!! !! *sigh*

I think we should all become advocates and make some extra G's for all our time invested in researching ASD's!! ! (perhaps even on my employers time  )

No seriously though, that timer looks like my daughter would benefit from it, but not I...I am too...uhm...stuck, once there!

Has anyone ever seen a personal reminder that would flash daily routine reminders?????

I have been searching for such a thing, but am at a loss.

I would think they would have such things for cognitively impaired people, no?

FA!
I got you all beat.

At my job, my web access is BLOCKED!

I cannot even pull up the web-based clock-in system.

Damn....

And the WORSE part? they didn't even tell me about it, I just went to clock in, and it said it was blocked.
I wasted 30 minutes on the phone with our help desk dept, after experimenting and seeing I couldn't PING or TRACERT out.

so it's been a month or so, I plugged a USB wi0-fi key into another PC and browse on my PSP!!

Do you work out of cubicles?

Perhaps you can have someone rig up a bright red strobe light with a switch on the outside of your cubicle which you fellow employees can hit whenever they pass you by  , that should keep you hopping!

Do you mean a personal reminder on the computer?

No, but I do however work in a space that my colleagues must move past me and on occasion I get the swat across the top of my head with a file

Something similar to that. I was thinking more along the lines of a pager looking device, much like the timer you own, but would flash a message when vibrating to prompt my daughter to initiate simple routine functions that get lost in the madness of each day....

The neat thing about the invisible clock is all the different timers and settings for them.

You can set several different timers so they go off at specific times of the day.

The 'Meeting Timer' will start vibrating or beeping, something like 15 minutes before your actual deadline-time, then again at 10 minutes with an increase in intensity of the vibration/beep, then again and again until the actual time you want to quit the meeting, change topics, whatever.

There is a setting called 'Custom Timer' which I have not used and know nothing about.

How about using the timer with notes on cards that coincide with the timer settings?
The regular timer settings are labeled - Timer 1, Timer 2, etc
You could have notes that correspond with the Timer 1, Timer 2, to help prompt your daughter to read the notes and take the actions on them.

How about a cellphone with a text screen? Or a palmpilot thing - I don't know if these vibrate or not.

Nope. I doubt is it a seperate disorder all of it's own. My special interests can easily be accessed, anytime, anywhere because of this fantastic creation. I never have to wonder, anything, ANYMORE! It is a fantastic thing, really. If ever I get stuck while crafting, I can do a search. If ever I wondered if it is possible to get married in France, I find the answer within minutes. If ever we need to make a decsision about what food to order, voila! If ever I find my child displaying signs or symptoms of something or other, worry no longer!! !

I have found everything and anything I ever wondered...right here.

I research all my interests, so much so that researching has become part of my interests. There have been times when my James has said "I feel guilty asking you to search for something, but...I know how much you love it and I know you will find it."

I am THE "search engine queen"

However, it does interfere with my work day and often times, I do find myself running late to leave, as I scramble to finish up! *sigh*
