I'm studying to be a research psychologist (i.e. lots of data analysis, little interaction with people except for the occasional test administration which I don't think would be a problem for me) and want to know if I should let an internship know if I have AS or not.
Basically, the only thing it impairs me in is social situations. I'm an academically gifted student on a full scholarship with a GPA of almost 4.0 and acceptance to an honors society for psych majors known as Psi Chi. I have almost no friends on campus but the professors and I all seem to get along.
I don't have any other physical/medical problems...I bench press, swim, run, etc. Clean driving record for 5 years, no tickets or accidents. Aside from an occasional cold I'm very healthy. Hearing and vision are good, no problems of any kind except that I hate incandescent lighting (not a problem in offices though and won't be a problem anywhere after 2012). Good reflexes, reaction time, depth perception, etc...I know some folks have problems with all of those. But alas, I have serious issues when it comes to reading social cues, making social judgements, interpreting nonverbal cues, etc. Not a very affectionate guy at all and pretty aloof. (I feel much more comfortable online because I can edit what I want to say.)
Anyone else think a place should know if an AS wants to research AS for a living? Or would that hurt my chances of a job?
BTW: My college doesn't have any documentation from the doctors, etc about any disorder since I don't need any services. I don't intend to tell a grad school/PhD program about anything either. I commute so I don't have to worry about campus life.
