Job Hunt Woes

For various reasons, I have been unable or unwilling to seek a job in the past. Now I can, and find the job hunt frustrating. I have been searching for two weeks for nothing but the most menial, minimum wage jobs, and finding them extremely competitive. I've recieved one interview and a couple of offers, but so far nothing.

The worse part is that I may not have expected this frustration. I always thought that the scary part about working was the job itself, but since I had a job recently, I found out that wasn't the case. Now, the hard part is looking. How hard is looking for other aspies? Am I being too dramatic, or is job-hunting really this hard?

This isn't the best time of year since college is just getting out. I worked as a "doorman" at the Springfield Mall theaters a loooong time ago and it wasn't too bad. They want you to talk to the customer as you're tearing their tickets, but they usually just want directions to the right theater, or the bathrooms, etc. They were consistantly hiring kids during the summer because a lot of the employees would just bail without giving any kind of notice.

I think it's universal that job-hunting sucks for pretty much everyone. This is especially the case if you are desperate for an income, but even if you are already employed, a casual quest for a new job can be surprisingly depressing.

And right now, at least here in the US, the job market in general is quite competitive, because of the slumping economy. That only makes the situation worse.

Granted, I do believe that aspies have their own challenges in job acquisition (particularly that job interview first-impression-thing), but right now I think it's a tough time for everyone.

Job hunting IS the hardest part, you're right. And it's very emotionally taxing, I've found...good luck and find some fun things to do in between job-searching.
