I am currently trying to realise my dreams of going back to the Middle East (I lived there before and want to go back as it was love at first sight with the area and its culture) and currently negotiating with a hotel that needs staff and has been arranging the necessary working permits before for people.
I am not sure if I'd be hired yet, but just in case I was wondering if anyone else has done a job in a hotel and how you coped with it. If I'd get hired, it'd be my first "public" job. By that I mean a job in which you really meet your customers face-to-face, a total change given the fact I mainly did callcenter and billing work so far where you rarely meet customers. So doing the hotel reception would be a quite drastic change.
Now don't get me wrong, I am confident I can do it so I am not hesitant about it, and I do believe AS doesn't have to be an issue when meeting customers. But did anyone ever do such a job before, and is there any good advice on how to go through it without your Aspie traits forming a problem?
PS: I probably know by next week if I get hired, so you can imagine I am quite nervous The job itself is one thing, realising a dreamt-of relocation is however the thing that makes it exciting but that also makes the jobhunt nervewrecking

For awhile I was part of the banquet service staff at a large hotel. It was hectic behind the scenes, and dealing with the kitchen staff was always a challenge (!) But the actual serving of the meals was rewarding. The larger groups ended up being like an Army exercise in co-ordination.
Overall, it had its pleasnant moments ...
