depends on the job. If I was up for murder, probably not. If I needed a real estate deal, or a will done, why not?

It depends on his track record.

How would I know he's got AS?
. . .and if I don't even know what AS is?

Are we referring to the AS lawyer portrayed on Boston Legal? The blonde guy whose name I cannot recall.
Personally, I don't think they have that character right. The writers don't seem to grasp AS (and its traits) accurately enough.

Any other people agree or disagree with me?

I always wondered if he were supposed to be aspie!

An aspie lawyer would be thorough in the details, honest. The only problen would be if tv dramas are true and the presentation depended on good drama

That would depend on the individual lawyer! I'd pay attention to his credentials and his track record, not whether or not he had AS.

Well probably, depends on his previous cases' results and on the resources I would have, one thing I know though is that I would prefer not hire the guy from Boston Legal.

Interesting question. I see no reason why an Aspie couldn't excel at most aspects of the legal profession, with one crucial exception. I realize there are a lot of courtroom rules in place to insure full disclosure to both sides beforehand, but here's what would worry me:

I have an IQ a good twenty points above the NT norm. I have said several times to those close to me: "I can think deeply, I can think profoundly, I can even think creatively and beautifully - but I do not do well in situations where I am required suddenly and without warning, to think fast on my feet. I equate it with the same part of AS that makes it nearly impossible for me to hit a baseball with a bat. It's as if there's a microsecond sensory delay - the same thing with social intuition - sometimes I know what the appropriate response is, but hesitate a few seconds too long, until the moment has passed and things have become suddenly awkward..

If my experiences in that arena are in any way a common Aspie issue, then courtroom law might pose a serious problem. Also, Judges hate seeing anything done in an unconventional way, thus might be impatient with a novel approach to practical logic.

Sure, if he/she had a reputation for winning cases.

Yeah, what's up with his purring as a stim? Does anyone actually do that? I've never seen it mentioned here, but maybe I missed the memo. :D

I'd hire a competent lawyer. AS is not a factor.

It wouldn't matter to me whether a lawyer had AS; I'd be looking at his/her experience and whatnot.

Heck yeah I'd hire an aspie lawyer! If he has aspie's and went to a educational field like that, he'd probably be like me and be able to use an advanced vocabulary to flare up a speech and invoke the right emotions to turn the tide. Also he'd find loopholes in all the other side's plots against me.

How could it go wrong?

I laughed out loud! The best attorneys I know are on the spectrum! Personally, I wouldn't want to hire one who wasn't. My ex was a federal appeals attorney and I can't imagine how an NT could research, READ, recall and write all the material needed for a vigorous defense, in the possible shortest amount of time.
