Florist/flower shop
Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas on being a florist or working in a flower shop? Or does anyone have or know of someone with AS who has a gift working with flowers and making floral arrangements?
I've always been ok at flower arranging and wondered if anyone else had, too. (I think ppl w/ AS can be pretty artistic sometimes Let me know what you think.

I'm sure I couldn't handle the flower shop, because experience has shown me that cannot work retail jobs effectively.
I used to work in a greenhouse and loved that. Mostly I never saw another person, I just went and picked up written instructions that my boss left in a cubby for me. In the winter, I propogated flowers in the greenhouse, in the spring I would plant them in the beds around the campus, according to colour and species maps provided by my boss. Commercial greenhouses seem to require more social interaction from their workers, though.
I once used to be self-underemployed making balloon sculptures. People would sometimes pay absurd amounts to have me make arrangements of balloon flowers, or balloon baskets full of balloon fruit. They'd hire me to decorate a whole room with the colours they'd selected for their wedding, that sort of thing. I don't know that I'm gifted at it. Artists always say I've got a 'good eye,' though. Mostly balloon sculptures are lots lots easier to make than people believe and they think it is a wonderful magic. They'll just watch you twist and weave the balloons and not talk about it, usually, too.
I know nothing about flowers, but it sounds like an artistic thing.
You probably don't need a lot of "social skills" when you have something going on that's real.
You'll have a small number of regular workers in the shop -- one or two at a time?
And customers who come because they want what you have to give.
If you have the talent and the passion, that sounds like heaven.
i left high school wanting a carer in graphic design/advertising
i'm very good with wording thing and art but am dyslexic , and suck at school, i started working in a flower shop at 17
by the time i was 35 i was or had been Oklahoma's designer of the year, Okla master florist 2 times and held several different title's in a 4 state reg area. i find it easier then most to zone any one out in a computation and my mind sees the color shape and size and knows how to make it happen, as a very young child i saw my self as a flower and not human, i still at times feel that i can , or know how the flower feels, grows, and can put that in to an arrangement. interpreting how a flower feels and or grows is constituted a sign of being crazy, some one once said creativity is next to madness and i thing i am on of the most creative people i know.
i open my own flower shop 5 years ago and enjoy the solitude of not having to deal with the other employee and there constant need for competition and talking and socializing. it pays about 1/2 of that a star designer gets paid but who needs money when now i have the freedom to express my self how i want in my own art. i also do my own web sight and any print adds or radio and TV commercials.
as far as social skills and talking to the costumers i'm not good with that , on most things its prememorized statements over and over, there is realy only so many things you can say to get a order or that you have to say,i can get talk in to a corner and just stat talking about one of my favorite subjects but i also think a lot of people consider me a artist and just put up with me. just don't move my table around or change my routine! that will may me crazy!!
