Does anyone know of any rote jobs where you just do easy tasks and you have minimum interaction with the public?

There are tons at different levels, using different types of skills. Data entry, factory work, transcribing (what I do). What types of skills do you have? What is easy for you?

Those jobs seem hard to come by in my experience though.

I guess it depends where you live. If you live in a city, there should be a temp agency and they pretty much always want people who are presentable and polite with data entry skills. You don't have to be outgoing or fashionable. They will test your speed and if you are fast enough, with accuracy, you will no doubt get placements. After several, you are likely to be offered a job, in my experience.
