I am usually the very careful type, if it looks even very slightly dodgy, I steer clear. But today my need for a job may have got me into some trouble.

I was using Yahoo HotJobs, and came across a job ad that looked just the ticket. I hit the 'apply' button and was directed to another site, ExtendYourCareer.com or something like that. I put in my name, address, email and cell phone number, but did not attach a resume or give any info like SSN or financial info.

I hit 'submit' and was then asked a series of questions like "are you interested in starting your own business?" and "Are you interested in extending your education now?". I answered 'no' to all questions.

And that was it, no further info asked for. I had an inkling as I typed in the info, but did it anyway. I then did what I should have done beforehand and checked out the website. It turns out to be yet another incarnation of the infamous Career Network, who under various guises have been posting fake job ads and sending unsolicited emails with job ads in them.

What I'd like to know is having given my contact details only, what can they do with it? Are they likely to try and use the info for criminal activity (identity theft, etc), or will I simply be bombarded with more cold calls and junk mail?

Well, as long as they don't try and clear out my bank account or set up loans in my name, I'll be happy! :)

I'm glad you didn't put your SSN or any other pertinent personal information on this site, I would be very wary if any of them asked for that info.

Other than that you would probably expect to get more junk mail in your inbox.
