...Because my crappy job has given me RSI and I don't know how long I'll be able to keep doing it with any degree of competence.

Also I really hate doing it and they know I have AS and haven't really made any adjustments or offered me any further opportunities at the company and I'd really like to drop the hint - no, actually suggest - that they do this because I'm not happy.

...But I feel really really awkward. Any tips on how to approach this one? Thanks.

Sorry - little late. Just now saw your post.

How did it go?

And what is RSI?

OOOO, bummer! I hope you took your documentation with you and the recommended accommodations listed by whatever professional you got them from. The only way to deal with a repetitive stress injury that I know of is to not be doing the repetitions for a while so it can heal, and then examine what caused the injury in the first place and make whatever ergonomic concessions to that you can.

Hope it went well for you....

Still not done it yet but will do this afternoon. Supervisor's away this week so I'm even less optimistic. At the moment I don't have much in the way of suggestions for how they shoudl accomodate AS but I can't keep going with this.

RSI is repetitive strain injury: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repetitive_strain_injury

Saw your follow-up post.

What accommodations do you need to be able to be functional at your job? Hae you discussed this with the professional who diagnosed you? They should be able to make some suggestions - and will need to in writing, probably, at some point. (Why would they offer you other opportunities if you're not doing well at the one you're in?) If you haven't asked for accommodations and provided documentation, they don't legally (in the US) have to do a thing for you. If you need them, I hope you ask for them (and, thus, identify your disability) prior to getting fired for not being able to perform in the workplace. You can't deal with it after the fact - there's no recourse if you didn't identify your need for reasonable accommodations in advance.
