I currently work in a pub, which is losing money left, right, and centre. I have applied for a number of jobs since I heard about this, as it's touch and go whether I keep my job for much longer. I have received no response from anywhere.

Went onto the Job Centre Plus website, and trawled through it. I know I can get income support because I am registered disabled, but I want to work - it's just the places of work who don't want to give me that chance. Then I came across this "New Deal" thing, and wondered how to go about asking what it means, and whether I qualify, having Asperger Syndrome and Dyspraxia.

Has anyone been on this scheme, or indeed work for JCP and know about it?

Hi LadyMacbeth,

I am afraid that I am not on the "New Deal" scheme, nor do I know anything about it, but I bookmarked this web-site

http://www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/

when I was having difficulty finding work. I never paid to become a member because I ending up getting the type of job I was looking for, so I can not say for certain how helpful that site will be.

I will pm you some information about my current employer which may be of interest in terms of employment possibilities. (I do not want to post that sort of specific information on a public web-site.)

Thanks. I already claim DLA, which is benificial, but not enough to live on. And I would like to work in a better job than I'm in now, if only for my sanity!

Well, if anyone else is interested in this scheme, I will report my experience with it. Have made an appointment for myself and Macbeth (he rang them up, as I can't talk to ppl I don't know without great difficulty :P ) for Wednesday 14th January. Will say what happened that day or the next day, depending on the stress of having to do it.

Well, the experience was good, all said. My disability employment advisor was very helpful, and went above and beyond the call of duty to help me. She actually seemed enthusiastic about her job, which is a rare thing nowadays, and put us through to services and advisors on things like benefits.

Am going back in a months time, to say what progress has been made (i.e. Autism Plus pulling their finger out and giving us support for living, and whether we're actually out of our current jobs yet).

Would advise this to everyone thinking about starting/going back to work, with a disability.

cannot say I've heard of this scheme, and I thought New Deal ceased to exist now, or so I heard

Either way I'm trying to find whatever options I can for a job, as I was fired before christmas and desperately need a job

They have many different New Deals.. and they're going to be used a lot more, as JCP is eradicating Income Support and making everyone capable of working, work.

When you do get a job you may be eligible for disabled working tax credit-I get some 50 quid a week of it on top of my wages.
