Any one here sell on Etsy???

I'm a fairly decent seamstress, I make all my daughters dresses and outfits and some stuff for my son. Everyone who sees my work is impressed by it and always asks me if I'm going to start selling on Etsy. My response is always "Yeah I'm working on that!"

Reality is I'm not working on it at all. While I like the idea of making a little cash, the idea of selling to people gives me anxiety. I cann't even contemplate 'make for orders', so I would have to make the item and then put it up for sale. But I know that there will be people out there that will never be happy, I cann't deal with those types of people at all, or the people that want to change everything, you know the kind, for example, " I like that skirt, but not that print or fabric, can you make it this way?...blah blah blah"

How do you, if you sell on Etsy, deal with this?? Maybe I'm way over thinking all of this and should just start out with a few easy pieces.

I sell cookies on Etsy.

Just list in your shop policies that you do NOT make custom orders. If someone contacts you with a request, politely refuse.
What you sell is what you currently have available. If they want a custom skirt, they can find another seller.

Start out with a few east pieces, and build up as your feel comfortable. That's what I'm doing.

Right now I sell cookies, but I eventually want to branch out into breads and cakes. :)

Cleverkitten, thanks for your reply. I never got that far on the whole Etsy thing so I didn't know that it was an option.

I wish you luck on your venture. I make bread and know that while it's a specialized talent it's sooo satisfying when the loaves come out of the oven.

I've sold vintage and supplies on there, so a tad different. There is a lot of self selling, through the ads and blogs and twitter. I was doing pretty well, but my problem is I can't *make* more of what I run out of! But it's great, you can do your own hours, promote on the computer, etc.

It can't hurt to start a shop. The shop is free, the listings are inexpensive, etc. There's a great community there and I'd be willing to help you out as well!
