Can my child qualify for an FBA or BIP?

The past few weeks it has been very hard to drop my son off at school because he seems to be very clingy and says he scared of the kids. If i stay he does join in soon after and not seem scared at all. He is having problems, I feel reading emotions and body language of his classmates becuase hes constantly saying the kids dont like him, hes scared of them etc. If i leave him at school crying i usually have to either pick him up soon after or stay in class with him.
Today I had to pick him up for spitting repeatedly in another little boys face and his teacher said he screamed ear peircing screams. He had to stay back from thier class movie and wait for me to pick him up. His teacher thinks he knows what he did wrong but when i got there he was tumbling on the floor with not a care in the world. He wouldnt tell anyone why he did this but when i got there his teacher asked him again and he said the boy was mad at him. He seems paranoid often and assumes kids are doing mean things when they arnt and i feel misreading thier expressions/body languages.
In the past month he had been having problems with another little boy who he says beat him up but come to find out this little boy who supposedly has been beating him up has speech problems so when he talks my son cants understand him and assumes this kid is saying something mean to him so it ends up that they are fighting or my son is throwing a fit. This has stopped for the last week but my son still talks about how he dosnt like this kid cuz the kid beat him up.
Also this week I didnt have to stay in school because he was being clingy to me, the only thing was today i had to pick him up early for the spitting which the teacher seemed pretty upset and said it is unacceptable which i agree it is.
Someone told me to get an FBA and BIP but he goes to a private preschool. Would he qualify for an FBA or BIP? Would he still be able to get one since he goes to private preschool? Will I have to pay for it or the private school or the public school? We cannot afford to do it out of pocket or hire an aide right now for our son, but were afraid that he may get kicked out even tho the school has been very nice to us about things. Thanks!

I've never heard of a preschool using a FBA . FBA,BIP,BSP are pretty much the same thing just known by different letters. The one we use at our school is a BSP (behavior support plan)......A BSP is a plan of action for school staff. Staff meet and discuss the behaviors they are trying to extinguish. They then prioritize what behavior(s) are the most troublesome and come up with a plan that will, hopefully, help the student behave in a more acceptable manner.........Typically, it's best to have a Behavioral Analyst come in and at least assist with the formulation of a BSP.

An Example of notes from a BSP could be: Behavioral issue=Student A is having difficulty transitioning to music class. Every time he is told it's music time, he throws himself on the floor . Supports previously tried=verbal redirection, physical prompt.
Consequences previously tried= removal of preferred activity. Plan of Action=Student A will get 2 verbal prompts to stand up and go to music class. If Student A complies, he will earn a sticker for his chart. Once his chart is full, Student A can turn it in for a class prize ( eraser, pencil, small toy). If Student A does not comply, he will be escorted to the Alternative Learning Area & be given classwork to complete. Student A can return to the classroom upon completion of the classwork.

*****note- if the student is able to cognitively understand, it is best to discuss the general BSP with him/her before the issue arises.....ie; i've noticed that you have difficulty getting to music class. If you go to music class without throwing yourself on the floor, you can earn a sticker. once your chart is full, you can earn a class prize. if you do not go to music class, you will stay in ALA & do classwork.***********

In the preschool years, since it is all private, I think your choices are:

Find a preschool that suits him better (as difficult as change is for our kids, being in the wrong school is worse - I have always, ALWAYS, regretted not moving my son to a different school when I could have)

Enroll in a county preschool / early intervention program for children with special needs. Many areas have these because they've found resolving many of the issues in the preschool years costs them less long run when the children enter public school. I've heard nothing but raves about the programs where I live. They don't work well as childcare, unfortunately, but they can be great for your child.

My son had a FBA and a BIP in grade school. In preschool, my son did similar things like your son (he was kicked out of one preschool and another preschool kept him only because the director of that school had a kid on the spectrum).

The FBA and BIP in grade school did not benefit us in any way. The school did not follow the plan, but held my son responsible for his behaviors. They used the BIP as an excuse to repeatedly suspend him or call me to come pick him up early.

It sounds like your son's school is all wrong for him. My son's behaviors were so bad when he was in a wrong placement. We're homeschooling and behavior is not my #1 concern anymore.

behavior should not be the #1 concern of a good facility. BSP's, when followed properly, are meant to be phased out- a temporary plan to alter a troublesome behavior

We went through our state's Early Intervention program (called DART here in PA) to get an IEP for my son when he was in preschool. It didn't cost us anything. Maybe this is an option for your son?

So it pretty much sounds like I wont be able to get one with him in a private preschool? Thats what confused me because I thought public school system paid for them most of the time and since he isnt in the public school system I didnt think hed be able to get one, altho someone I spoke to about this keeps repeatedly telling me to get him one, so I just dont know!
He was almost kicked out of his current school at the beginning of the year because they told me they thought they could handle him and didnt think he really had autism but theyre eyes were opened very quickly He was dx'd soon before turning four so by that time he didnt qualify for EI here because of his age. He also didnt qualify for any services at all thru the school and all they told me was to take him to the park more and how he dosnt have asd or call them when he gets expelled! The private preschool he attends now actually have been great with accomodating my son about using pictures schedules and diff things and his teacher even went with me to a meeting I set up after his initial public school eval and tried to help get him placed in thier program but in the end they wanted me to shell out money to place him there. I was extremely upset! I feel that they are just going to have to deal with it when hes enrolled for kindergarten, dosnt make any sense to me. Im just worried that he may be close to being expelled this far into the school year upsets me because they seemed pretty upset and im worried that this kids parents are going to make a big deal out of things.

Newport beach dude, I live in AZ. I dont think we do have a regional center. Our town isnt big like a city, we live in Kingman. We do have dept. of developmental disabilities here which my son qualified for but then he had to also qualify for az long term care to even recieve the funding to get services thru dept. of dev. dis. and his case worker hasnt gotten back in touch with for ages! I should search again but the last time someone else recommended I see a reg. center and I couldnt find one anywhere in our town. Thanks so much Newport, for this advice!
