Hi and welcome. I'm a mom with ASD, have a hubby with ASD, and a 10 y/o daughter with ASD in adddition to 3 adopted children who all have sensory integration problems most likely from prenatal drug abuse. My advice: stay away from noisy, crowded places as much as possible. My 10 and 6 y/o have small MP3 players(Ipod nano for 10 and a Disney Mix Sticks for 6) that we put calm classical, folk, singer-songwriter, and other calming music on. They use them with headphones when we go out places and sometimes at home too. With 4 kids, it's pretty crazy and busy at my little zoo- we have 2 dogs, 3 cats, and 2 guinea pigs too. My kids don't seem to be so sensitive at home and can be quite raucious, especially the 5 and 6 y/o, so I often use the Ipod Nano myself at home
It helps center me- to focus my attention on the music in my ears rather than the noises going on around me and even the visual sensory input really helps me a lot and always has.
