I read a few things about this 'vitamin' last night as I found it on one of these posts and looked further into it. I read where it is a good alternative to medicine and is good for AS. I can't for the life of me find what this pill looks like, and if my son would be able to even get it down. I'm more willing to try something like this than another Rx med. Cheaper, for one, and not as potent!!
Please post any thoughts, suggestions, or success stories on this.

THANKS ALL!! ! :D

This would be Jelibean's favorite topic. Is she making money off of sales? She is a VERY strong advocate. ANYWAY, you can read some of her comments in this thread:

http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt78121.html

Is that the thread you found the reference in?

Same as with anything. Just because it's "natural" doesn't mean it's harmless, but I haven't come across anything contradictory or scary on this one yet. But I haven't specifically researched it, either. I just know Jelibean LOVES it, lol.

Purely hypothetical and unqualified information (my own ideas) :

Serine is very unlikely to be a deficiency since the body makes it.
I expect it to be a Placebo but I would try it anyway.
P-serine may be a DRUG, as it has been altered in a way that may get it into the brain.
I have no idea what effect higher than normal serine levels in the brain might have.

Supplements may come as powder in gelatin capsules, which are large but can be pulled apart releasing a powder. Sugar pills can be crushed into a powder. Liquid gels can be punctured to release the liquid. Whatever form P-serine comes in can be mixed with honey or pudding after being released in these ways, for the purpose of avoiding swallowing pills.

Yes, I did find it in this post. I am still doing some research on it. We'll see!! I'll post again about it if I do decide to start it.

Try this website. It is a dedicated forum to discuss Phosphatydil Serine and particularly ADHD. There aren't many members so far, but the ones I have found on there know their stuff about it.

I found the same link as you about three months ago, and have had my AS son on PS for a couple of months. I cannot see dramatic effects, although that isn't to say that it isn't working, as sometimes he does seem calmer, but then you don't know for sure what is causing it. It is mega-expensive, so I am going to keep it going for awhile and then re-evaluate. I just give it to him at breakfast time so it will get him through most of school. I scoop the gel capsule out and hide it in a spoon of yoghurt. I would warn you if you try it to make sure you take it first to check that there are no side effects. I changed to a cheaper brand for my son and assumed it would be the same. However, three weeks later I was baffled as to why he had been stumbling around the place and complaining of headaches . . . so I took a capsule myself . . . and my husband almost called an ambulance!! It had extra ingredients to the PS which I think gave side effects.

   I wish I WAS getting commission!! Costs me £120 per month and I get NO discounts or customer incentives! BOOOOooooo. Actually I did email Vitacost.com to tell them how FANTASTIC PS was and never got a reply!! Double BOOOOOoooooo.

Actually annie and everyone else is right, I do LOVE PS!! IT IS AMAZING.

For those of you who are struggling with the capsules THERE IS A POWDER!! Hurrrrayyyyyy!

ANYWAY, IT IS BRILLIANT. Works in just 20mins BETTER than Ritalin/Concerta IN MY OPINION and for 2yrs it is working as well now as the first day! Loads of academic reference and empirical research to support it. CHECK IT OUT!!

Anyone want any info, then I love an excuse to stand on my Phosphatidyl Serine SOAPBOX!

DON'T FORGET THOUGH IT IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH ANY ANTI COAGUALTION MEDICATION, that is my ONLY warning PLUS PS works best on ITS OWN!!

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE AND DO LET US KNOW HOW YOU GET ON.

Thanks Annie!! :D :D

Edited to say............BTW. PS is NOT a vitamin, it is a non essential amino acid!!

Ooh and also there are clinical studies going on for PS in Israel with ADHD children. They are testing it alongside the Omegas x :D

For something lighter, try Dr Kyl Smith youtube Phosphatidyl Serine! :D

I tried it for a few weeks, didn't feel any different. It seems mostly harmless though, so if you're just looking for a placebo effect it might help with that.

Can I ask, did you use natural serine or synthetic? It is very important to use natural. I have seen others say it doesn't work but when they try the natural it is a different story! I only use one brand, it depends on what you buy!

SERINE CAN BE A DEFICIENCY! Please be careful what you post

This is the link to the SERINE DEFICIENCY FOUNDATION.

http://www.serine.org/

It is well known that deficiencies CAN occur with SERINE.

There are some cases of VERY SEVERE deficiency and others that cause a problem in behaviour but don't show up as SEVERE on a blood test.

I can prove serine deficiency, my son's lab results.

Also it is MORE common now as we are not eating as much fresh meat. Serine is derived from BOVINE brains which is why because of the BSE crisis we have to derive it from soya.

Just wanted to straighten that out! :D :D :D
